Barfing on UCONN comes easy to this board but Thabeet is a very good player. I'd wait until after the UCONN/GU game before daring to compare him to Popa.

He's much better than Popa, but I do agree that right now he's a bit overrated. He gets an ordinate amount of praise for a guy who averaged 10/8 last season. I guess people are counting on a true breakout season this year, and he does have potential to be a consistently dominating presence inside. He had 23 and 17 last night, great numbers regardless of the competition.

I am personally quite worried about some players in the Big East that we used to have no trouble with because of Roy. Thabeet is definitely one of them. Harangody is another.

agree royski agree with those two and theres the one we DID have trouble with mr. blair from pitt so maybe more trouble without roy but the YOUNGINS ARE COMING TOO AND THATS DIFFERENT GO HOYASS

This is very true, but we will also get a center who can hopefully score points against Villanova

I actually think this could be somewhat true. There could be a balance where certain teams will give us more trouble without Roy, but others will give us less. Nova is a good example--they were often able to take him right out of the game....sometimes literally. That shouldn't happen with this team.....I hope!

Thabeet is legit, let's not get ahead of ourselves on bashing. The guy is a legitimate lottery pick and I suspect after being outplayed by Roy the last 2 years he will give us a taste of what that feels like this year. He has no offensive game beyond dunking but at an agile 7'3, so what? And he'll rebound and block plenty of shots as well.
