I don't know if anyone else out there was waiting on results all morning as the server crashed, but I finally made it through. It seems the State of New York has found me worthy of practicing law. Fools.
This isn't even remotely veiled, but it is a good feeling. Congrats to any others in similar situations.

Congrats, Bridge!
There is obviously no interview portion of this test.

I am shocked. This must be the first time you have ever passed a bar in your life.
(Channeling an old joke)

you mean, without going in? That's on the schedule for tonight. Ahh, the "I did it" night. I remember the night I passed my orals for my Master's degree. I remember it being the very best night of my life.....right up until the point it turned into the worst. Not good times. Congratulations & try to party sanely (if such a thing is even possible).

you mean, without going in? That's on the schedule for tonight. Tonight? What kind of lawyer are you? Don't let the NY bar find out you're not sauced yet -- they may not let you take the oath. Seriously, congratulations. Knowing you can now legally do what you have trained to do for the past three plus years is a great feeling, second only to the feeling that you don't have to sit for another standarized test for the rest of your life (unless you choose to). The New York bar exam is notoriously tough, so double-congrats.

Congrats Cambridge. Do you have a special field? Defense/prosecuting/estate/business/corporate or yet to be determined?

Congrats Cambridge. Do you have a special field? Defense/prosecuting/estate/business/corporate or yet to be determined? Litigate frivilous, unsubstantiated claims made anonymously in internet forums. It's a growth industry.

I'm glad I didn't have a mouth full of beverage in my mouth. It would have ended up on the keyboard. That was funny.

Hey congrats. Don't waste it all on high-priced call girls after a morality-enduced rampage through greed.

I'm glad I didn't have a mouth full of beverage in my mouth. Is that anatomically possible?

I wonder what percentage of folks who just passed the bar exam yesterday ran out and promptly did something to disqualify themselves from admittance.

Cambridge, congratulations. I am still trying to figure out where you are located. You seem to be jumping all over the country.

Question about NY bar - I'm a 3L and working in DC after graduation - do you think it makes more sense to take the Virginia bar or the NY bar?

If you guys plan to stay in the DC area long term, take the Virginia bar exam. Having a Virginia license will make you infinitely more marketable in DC that a NY license. Plus, there's no heroism in sitting for the tougher bar if you're not planning to practice in that jurisdiction.
If you're feeling your future legal career will be more transient, consider which jurisdiction has the best reciprocity arrangements with the jurisdictions you might like to practice in one day. For example, if you think you might want to work in North Carolina one day, it's my understanding that the Virginia bar won't do you a lot of good.

I agree with showcase. Also, think about what type of law you want to practice. For example, transactional stuff would probably push you towards NY as that's the choice of law in most deals.

not to be a jerk but DE is more common and your bar state doesnt matter for this purpose at all unless you are signing a legal opinion on behalf of your firm, which is many years down the road.

Well possibly, unless you are doing pro bono work and need to sign something - I know plenty of people who do pro bono work at big firms that involves signing a motion or pleading.

DE is the home to many corporations, but choice of law? That's news to me, I was taught in law school that the choices were generally NY, DE and IL (in that order). NY and IL have the most developed trade law. DE is the home to many corporations and has corporate friendly courts. Of course, I'm not in transactional stuff, so, I'll cede to those more in the know.
