Can we forget trying to tie William Ayers to Obama and concentrate on what this nut-bag is? In appearing on ABC he claimed he was demonized but then goes on to say he still thinks they did not do enough after all the bombings of the Weather Undergroung. Why are we putting this guy on network TV? abcnews.go.com/GMA/Politics/story?id=6251086&page=1

ed, I agree that we need to put the election behind us and hope and pray that Obama is the candidate he ran as rather than the community organizer and senator that he was before. As for the "tying" of him to Ayers, I never thought much of that line of reasoning. I never gave any serious consideration to the idiotic suggestions that he was a "terrorist" or that he was actually still a Muslim or any other such tripe. But I still think that a history of associating with and befriending characters of such questionable quality was a valid issue. In any case, as you say, let's focus on this nut and why exactly he is respected as a teacher of some of today's youth.

The McCain campaign virtually guaranteed this would happen by constantly bringing him up as if he actually mattered. Now that the election's over, he's enjoying being thrust into the spotlight that weeks of being mentioned by a candidate will bring. You only have yourselves to blame, gentlemen.

Not to pick nits in our new era of good feeling, but he would never have come up at all if our new President-elect had been initially forthcoming about their relationship.
Having said that, I do firmly believe that he is simply a washed-up terrorist and of no major consequence.

I tried to put this thread forward without trying to tie it to the presidential campaign. Looks like I failed for the most part. I don't want to get into fighting the election again so I recommend closing this, my, thread.

I don't want to get into fighting the election again so I recommend closing this, my, thread. But it's relevant. No one would be looking to interview him or hear him speak if he hadn't been brought up in the campaign. He's taking advantage of his second 15 minutes, what would you expect?

The "associations" angle was not a winner in the primaries and was not a winner in the general election. The dots weren't connected when it came to Ayers, and, with the passage of time, it became clear that the argument was a stretch. Perhaps the best ammo that Obama's opponents had was Wright, but McCain sat on his hands and did not run with it in time to make it a campaign issue. Obama had enough time to find an "out" by resigning as a member of the Church.
I am pretty sure that McCain had trouble with these smears, which is why he largely did not engage in them until it was too late. Palin had no problem with them, even though she was the wrong messenger given that she shares a bed with a secessionist.
The result of all this is that the most important "association" in this election was Senator McCain's self-professed association with President Bush.

The Real Bill Ayers www.nytimes.com/2008/12/06/opinion/06ayers.html?_r=2I just wish Ayers would take his leave and keep a low profile much as Jeremiah Wright has. Whether he likes it or not, he is now an emblem of the divisive politics that has afflicted this nation for a long while. At the same, Obama's opponents would be well advised to take this opportunity to find a new line of argument.

He needs to find Joe the Web Designer or else Joe the Reader will never buy this book. It will mean that the career of Joe the Plumber-Turned-Political-Figure will go straight down the toilet. But fear not because a clogged toilet is exactly the job for plain old (how-the-hell-did-this-guy-get-famous?!) Joe the Plumber.
