I honestly don't really know what this means for the conference, but the Rutgers fans seem convinced that this is the worst choice ever and that it seals the deal for the oft-rumored conference split. rutgers.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=642&tid=117742140&mid=117742140&sid=988&style=2Of course, I doubt they know much about the guy and as usual with the Big East football schools they are eager to push the blame for their football ineptitude on anybody other than themselves/their own football programs. We'll see what happens next, looks like DeGioa was integral in the hiring.

this seems like good news a guy from providence will most likely keep the basektball school's interests in mind.

Wow, that is one hell of a read. Do those clowns really believe that the I-A football schools would all the sudden develop passionate fan bases that travel well enough to get them invited to better quality bowls if only they could get rid of Notre Dame, Georgetown, Villanova, and Marquette from their basketball schedules? I really hate college football sometimes.

Step 1- Drop your traditional rivals Step 2- Push your most successful coach ever to one of your new "rivals" Step 3- Profit? Also, I forgot, the other part of Rutgers grand plan for football domination is to add Army, Navy, and UCF to their new football behemoth. I can practically hear the smacking of lips and drooling of network executives ready to snatch up that ratings bonanza.

My favorite part about this whole uprising is that Rutgers football fans think highly of themselves. RU had one semi-decent football year two years ago and ended up in the friggin' Texas Bowl that almost wasn't televised in NJ because the NFL Network wasn't on Cablevision.
The sooner Rutgers stops thinking that it is good at football the better everyone else will be.

All I'm going to say is that thread does nothing to dispel the rumor that New Jersey is the worst state in the union.

Yeah as a resident of NJ I'm gonna have to say how about Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, either of the Dakotas, Alaska, all way worse than NJ and that was just off the top of my head.
That being said I have no idea what the Rutgers fans are complaining about, right now they suck at basketball and football and they are worried about what other schools are doing?

Congrats to the new commish -- he's got big shoes to fill.

I don't know Nathan but I'm sure Delta brought him to the Atlanta airport at some point. He may have even gone to Beach Week in SC.

Are you kidding me though? Alaska smokes NJ on natural beauty alone. Georgia is a good enough destination to land a Summer Olympics...I don't see anyone rushing to give Trenton the 2020 bid. I will leave Nodak to argue the Dakotas and Myrtle Beach has great golf and it was an amazing Gtown beach week destination, even though it is kind of a dump...but also had a great Hooters.
NJ blows.

These Rutgers people are idiots, and I'm from NJ so I know how important Rutgers football is to the vast majority of people in the state: About as important as Temple football, or pee-wee grid, or Tiddlywinks leagues. And what big conference was going to take these perennial losers if not the Big East? What big conference will take them if they revolt? Answer: no big conference. And no matter where they end up, they will remain perennial losers.

While fans of the football schools are in a furor, is there any real doubt the football schools signed off on this?
I don't think the division between the actual schools is as deep as it is portrayed by the fans.
Furthermore, Big East fans love to blame the basketball schools and the BE Admin for all their failings. As if their football team sucks because of failed work in the BE office and not the fact that they don't recruit well, don't play well and don't win games. But if they had a football commissioner....

RBHoya--another...well whatever folks from New Jersey are called--always maintains when we talk about college football that Rutgers did not, in fact, have one good football year. They had one good game--the ESPN Thursday night home victory over Louisville in 2006. Then they predictably gagged away the conference title, and I can't even remember who they played in the Texas Bowl, but I sure as heck didn't watch it. Last season our game at the RAC was played concurrently with the International Bowl, and you could just feeeeeeeeeeel the excitement in Piscataway when they announced score updates. Big East basketball FTW.

I don't think the division between the actual schools is as deep as it is portrayed by the fans. .... Agreed, In fact it looks like Cuse and UConn behave like the basketball schools (probably because that's where their priorites are). I'd also guess that Cuse's decision to join Big East Lax is a sign of their intentions. The only football school that has a legitimate gripe is West Virginia, they are a legitimate football power with a passionate football fanbase that could probably be competative in any conference. Buteven then any claims of unfairness are pretty stretchy, was it the basketball schools that cost them a shot at the national title last season? No, it was their hilarious choke job against the Wanny Stache Oh and all in favor of kicking out Rutgers and replacing them with Memphis raise your hand
