Jonathan Wallace was the hero of Ljubljana today when his three with 24.6 seconds left gave Union Olimpija a 90-89 lead over Spanish champs Tau Ceramica in Euroleague Round 2. Then Tau scored a second chance basket with 3 seconds left to win 91-90. Wallace scored 11 points in 17 minutes, including 8 points in the last 7 minutes of the 4th quarter. He came in with Olimpija trailing 82-68, and scored 5 quick points on two foul shots and a three. Tau Ceramica had led by 21 (70-49) in the 3rd quarter. Anyone have any hope that he ever make it back to playing ball in the US? I mean 11 points in 17 minutes is pretty damn efficient. I'd love to see him fight his way into the League.

11 in 17 on 3 of 4 from 3. JW apparetly excels at foreign relations as well. Hmm.... Obama for 8 (apparently) then Jon Wallace?? He already has more foreign policy experience than Palin.

beat me to it - sounds like he has been used pretty sparingly - hopefully this can be a break out type moment for him

He has a chance for the D League, but the NBA is a huge longshot. In terms of money, he'd probably be better off across the pond.

OK, now I feel ill, and even after a feel-good post about JW. Sheesh. 11 in 17 on 3 of 4 from 3. JW apparetly excels at foreign relations as well. Hmm.... Obama for 8 (apparently) then Jon Wallace?? He already has more foreign policy experience than Palin.

Another last second loss today (64-62) at Split (Croatia) in Adriatic League play. Again Olimpija trailed most of the game but then rallied late to take the lead on a Wallace three. Jon was only 2 of 7 today, but both makes were in the 4th quarter. The second gave Olimpija a 62-60 lead with 2 minutes to go. Split tied it and then after the teams traded empty possessions Jon missed a three with a minute to go. On Split's next possession, Olimpija fouled former Florida Gator Eddie Shannon and he hit both free throws. Olimpija turned the ball over to end the game. Holy crap i never thought that people actually went to basketball games in eastern europe, but how wrong i was. that crowd was crazy it was like the verizon center during the uconn game when roy hit his three. but more violent (did you see them throwing stuff on the court).

Um.... jgalt? It's eastern Europe. If soccer, ahem, futbol is 'exciting' over there, I can't imagine going to an action sport.

I didn't see Tyler on the roster, did I miss somethjing? It was mentioned a while ago but Tyler I believe got traded. However I know he's back in the US right now (actually he's here on campus) so I don't know what he's up to.

Union Olimpija hosts Lottomatica Roma on Thursday in Euroleague play. Jon will be going up against three US guards: Allan Ray (Nova), Brandon Jennings (None & done), Ibby Jaaber (Penn). The 4th guard is Slovenian Sani Becirovic who formerly played for Union Olimpija and apparently has not been forgiven for jumping to Italy. Does anyone know how much someone like Jon makes playing for Union Olimpija?

I would guess something between $30k and $50k for the whole season, not guaranteed - undrafted and untested in a lower budget league/team - that said he probably gets a free apt. of some kind as well...

Why would he rather play in the US? Taking for granted he will never play in the NBA, nothing wrong with playing pro in Europe. I just hope in a few years he becomes one of the better paid players on whatever team he's on. No reason to think he can't get there. But NBA? Nah....and that's my favorite Hoya of all time.

Well, if you are going to take as a given that he's not playing in the NBA ever, then no, I don't think he'd be better off or would rather play in the US.
I think strummer's point -- at least how I read it -- about playing in the US was specific to the NBA only.
I assume nothing as a given. Long shot, absolutely, but NBA teams have signed worse players that Wallace in the past.
