Heck, McCain could even play the "restore our standing on the world stage" card. Well Boz, he could try. But he would be fighting an even steeper uphill battle around the globe than he does in the USA... at least if readers of the conservative magazine THE ECONOMIST are to be believed. They have a running poll for readers from around the world to vote and Obama seems to be winning their "international electoral votes" by over 90% Economist Poll

Hey, I was asked if I thought McCains strategy was the best and, if not, what I thought the best one would be. I gave my opinion.

To clarify, while I said that I think McCain's closing strategy is the one his campaign feels would give him the best shot, I did not mean to indicate that I thought is was his best closing strategy. Ah, gotcha. It's also baffling that the McCain campaign is now moving some resources to Montana. Not that the resources couldn't do some good for him, but if Obama wins Montana, it's already over. His campaign manager is gonna have some 'splainin' to do.

I love Alaska! Only state that rivals Louisiana for corruption. Now, let's convict Dollar Bill Jefferson!

The government's case was in serious jeopardy during trial when it was revealed prosecutors failed to disclose Brady evidence to the defense. Unfortunately, this development is not altogether surprising. The national public embarrasments for prosecutors in recent years continue to mount.

I've been following this off and on, and especially since the day of closing statements, the garbage has really piled on. Jurors were skipping town. A witness claims the prosecution coached him. More claims about evidence. The prosecution filed some allegedly improper ex parte motions. The list goes on.
Stevens lost his seat, and he's never going to go to prison at his age. I expect this to end quickly on appeal.

As it is and with his age, I don't really care (too much) whether he goes to prison or not, I just don't want him ever serving in public office again. Since that is pretty much a certainty at this point, I've had a difficult time staying interested in the developments of his case.

The interesting thing is that he would have won in Alaska if the state didn't start voting so early. He got the most votes once all of the craziness started to suffer, but he lost a lot of the early voting and absentee voting, which occurred right around the conviction and before the various improprieties started to surface.

Also on the pages of Alaska papers these days are articles about the recent arrest of Sherry Johnston (mother of Bristol Palin's boyfriend/acquaintance). She is charged with 6 felony counts involving a controlled substance (Oxycontin).

Public servants guilty of misconduct in Alaska? Shocking! What Alaskan public servants are you talking about? This was a federal case that was tried in a D.C. court.

Noteworthy enough that the felonious future mother-in-law of Bristol Palin could have been arrested before the election, but wasn't: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/05/AR2009010501632.html?hpid=sec-nation

To be honest, that doesn't really bother me. If the shoe were on the other foot, I'd be saying "Let's let the election play out and not needlessly drag XXXX's name into some silly drug mess."
Again, people are stupid, and BS like this can have an impact when it shouldn't. Turns out the Dems didn't need some story about this crackpot future mother-in-law drug peddler to win, so I'm ok with it.

Key words: future mother-in-law of Bristol Palin Not Sarah Palin Not even Sarah Palin's mother Not even Sarah Palin's mother-in-law Not even Sarah Palin's daughter Not even Sarah Palin's daugher's fiance But Sarah Palin's daughter's fiance's mother. Yeah. Still not noteworthy. You want to give me 5 minutes and see how much dirt we can dig up on Joe Biden's son? That's not noteworthy either.

But if the arrest in fact was delayed for political reasons, SOMEBODY thought it was noteworthy, right? That's what I'm saying.

Didn't happen, according to the AK Troopers Union www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/643595.htmlAnd before you start saying "oh, they're in the bag for Palin", this is the same Troopers Union that fought her tooth and nail over the firing of the Public Safety Commissioner and her families treatment of the trooper that was her ex brother in law. If there was anything to it, they wouldn't have let it go.
