He his highschool basketball at St. Alban's in DC. He went to My School St. Anselm's for middle school and played on the JV with me when he was in 8th grade and I was a sophmore. He's a good kid and a good shooter.

Nice- as a St. Albans alum I am proud to have a Bulldog as a Hoya player. Go Ryan and Go Hoyas!

Dougherty is a guard, played 1 year at U Rochester, appearing in 7 games, averaging about 1 pt a game on 57% FG shooting. In other words, he didn’t crack the playing rotation for the league games at a DIII school. I can see a spot on the practice squad, but to give him a roster spot seems a little odd, even though we are a little short-handed. Bryon played on the practice squad for an entire year before earning his roster spot, right? Maybe he showed JTIII something special in workouts, if so, glad to have him. He won’t have to sit a year, since he transferred from a DIII school. You only have to sit if you transfer within DI.

No offense intended, but I think Ryan and Bryon are basically still practice squad players. There just happen to be open spots on the roster, so coach lets them suit up and puts them in when he can to reward them for their hard work and dedication to the team. I think it's a nice gesture, because they certainly work just as hard as the rest of the team.
I don't know Ryan, but Bryon is one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

I believe you can suit up 15 or 16 players, so what would be the point of not suiting him up, especially when you only have 11 other players including Bryon?

You have to pay for his uniform, travel, lodging, and food (when on the road). of course i dont know what that all breaks down to and how much it is in terms of the entire budget but that would be a reason i thought of.

chump change (small price to pay) for having an extra body when they run suicides every 15 -20 minutes in practice. I'm Willing to bet this is the BEST CONDITIONED hoya team in the JTIII era.

Yeah we definitely need some capable bodies or we will be bloody and bruised before the season even starts.

Remember, Pat. Jr worked out with the team his first year, though he was ineligible to play. Macklin and Rivers will be doing the same this season.

I'm pretty sure you only have to sit out if you were a scholarship player at your previous school, and it's safe to assume he did not have an athletic scholarship at Rochester. Didn't we check this out back around the time of the Vaughn announcement? Weird NCAA and conference regulations focused almost exclusively on financial aid more than anything else.

Wouldn't a player changing levels of competition (going from DIII to DI or vice versa) be able to play immediately?

I'm not sure how relevant the question of whether he'll be playing this year or not is considering he's a poor man's Trenton Hillier. It's an extremely good thing or bad thing if he ends up in the box score.
