blogs.thehoya.com/paranoia/?p=161Ryan Pitino, a GU freshman, is going to be blogging for The Hoya throughout the season. Hopefully it will be interesting to see what it is like to attend one Big East school while your father coaches another.

He's infiltrating! He must be barred from any practices or games.

I wanna edited already. Rule number 1, absolutely NO LOUISVILLE GEAR EVER! Rule number 2, on a TOP 5 list, Syracuse must never appear unless it's a top 5 of sucking. Rule number 3, on any top 5 (to the good side) list, GEORGETOWN always takes the top spot. Rule number 4..... if I ever catch wind of that kid wearing a white suit around campus, I will be on a shuttle flight and at his dorm inside of 3 hours. And rule number 5... edited Louisville.
MOD NOTE: please do not make threats against students, even in jest.

How does a freshman end up with a blogging assignment from the Hoya, anyway? I wonder what the application process was like. I guess he beat out Timmy Calhoun, Matt Brey, Brenda Huggins, and Janice Boeheim.

Well I will no longer be reading the hoya. In the words of MCI, it is dead to me. What were they thinking Don't confuse The Hoya and Hoya Blue. We're OK with other opinions -- in fact, I GUARANTEE Ryan Pitino is the only person on this campus with this point of view. Feel free to disagree with him, but it is a unique vantage point. This will not hurt our team or the program or school spirit, I promise.

Yeah I agree - he will probably have a different and more interesting perspective than most could provide - normally I think it is a bad idea to have a freshman do this stuff because their knowledge is so limited and I'm sure Ryan will have some stuff in there that will make people cringe but hopefully the benefits will outweigh some of the negatives.

The son of the President of Rutgers is a sophmore and has shown up to things in Rutgers gear from time to time.
I have don't have that much of an issue with him blogging, besides if I ever meet him he will be only the second Louisville fan I've ever encountered that is older than 15 and younger than 60 which I guess makes him even more special.
But no way in hell is he getting a free shirt

Reminds me of the time my wife (we were only dating at the time) was a student trainer and she wore a UNC t-shirt into the training room. Coach Esherick was not too happy about that.

This kid better hope Louisville doesn't beat Georgetown this year.
Some of his fellow students may just decide to create a re-enactment of a particular scene from The Exorcist.

They couldn't pay the poor kid to take a scholarship at L-Ville? The easiest way out for the surname-challenged child is obviously to fix that in a hurry and promise to name his first born son Jack.

Here's my take on all the anger: If there is some random kid on my freshman floor who is from Louisville or whose dad went to Louisville or is a huge Pervis Ellison fan and refuses to throw away is Cardinals red for Blue and Gray, I'd be Editeded. If I gather with my new friends freshman year to head to Verizon Center, and there is one buzzkill who is just a loud, obnoxious Louisville fan, I'd want none of it. I'd make sure he put his Louisville gear in a drawer.
And if this random dude who refused to root for his school's team got a spot in the school paper, I'd probably be peeved.
But the kid's dad is one of the preeminent coaches in the country. He is a future hall of famer. He coaches one of the best teams in the Big East and in the country -- a team that we play every year. That is a damn good reason to stick with rooting for Louisville -- and if you say then he should have just attended Louisville, you're being absurd. And, that experience also provides this person with a perspective on college basketball that very, very, very few have.
I expect people to vehemently disagree with Ryan throughout the year. I probably will. But I think this animosity towards him personally and the incredulity that his opinion is worth publishing are both unfounded.
