Saw this the other day and am surprised noone else has brought this up yet.....apparently through a loophole somewhere Illinois had an outdoor scrimage in their football stadium.....what's everyone's reactions to this? www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/11027374

I never liked WEBER and I think he's slime ... and as for the loophole .. scrimage or what ever you call it .. typical WEBER MOVE .. notice how he says " the event was never meant to give Illinois a recruiting advantage, though he acknowledged more recruits were in attendance than there would have been at a traditional Midnight Madness event." GO FIGURE!

Weber is slime? Really? The guy has never had any allegations against him and frankly his lack of success at recruiting keeps him out of a lot of suspicion. Are you sure you aren't thinking of someone else?
Several schools took advantage of the loophole, including Kentucky. So what? Frankly, I doubt being outside this week versus inside another week is much of an advantage, if at all.

alright ... maybe I went to far as to calling him slime ... but thats my opinion ... I've heard stories about him that I cant really elaborate on in a public forum .. but he's no saint and I know this for a fact.

If its not against the rules i dont have a problem with it. If the NCAA changes the rule, which they are going to, then i am fine with that too. I really dont think it gave any team an advantage. You could look at it this way:
If player X is deciding between schools A and B and is more likely to choose the school whose MM he attended that A and B will want him to go to their MM. If both A and B have MM on the same night player X can only choose one, but if A has theirs one week earlier than B then it is possible for X to attend both. Of course B could argue that school A got an advantage because X may commit the weekend of MM.
This may lead to schools holding their MM earlier and earlier, but at a certain point that doesnt pay off; if its too early players wont want to commit with out thinking about it and visiting other schools. Also fan bases will lose the excitement MM generates for basketball season, especially at football schools were there is such high competition between the two sports for attention.
Georgetown holds a pep rally for Freshman every year at the beginning of the year. It generates excitement in a similar way to MM, although on a slightly smaller scale and with much less fan fare and dancing. I dont think any recruits have ever been to it, but I dont see how they couldnt if JTIII asked NSO to let them attend. This year it was held in the gym and I went for a bit with my roommates, none of whom are freshman and no one said anything, I even saw a parent with small children standing by the door.
Overall i dont think its a big deal. If they change the rule to say, "no open practices before such and such date" schools could still find ways to hold events earlier (is it a practice if no coaches are there? no i dont think it is). Did any highly contested recruits commit after these events who may not have if they couldnt have gone? Some schools dont even hold Midnight Madness events and have done just fine with recruiting (UCLA anyone??).

some what on the topic of this thread .. I noticed WV got a verbal from a player (deniz kilichi) and it seems UK was on the same prospect but pulled out of his recruitment due to the fact that the player wanted to attend WV's (MM event) instead of theirs ... boy .. all this MM talk has got me amped for the season ... I know we've had a great track record as far as recruits attending our event .. I hope we can continue that pattern ... and GET IT DONE!
