Those of you who read the old Talkboard likely remember Doseofreality. When I first joined the board, about four years ago, Dose was already arguing that Esherick should be removed. I don't know if he was first (he may well have been), but he was clearly way ahead of the curve. He was also known for his lengthy arguments supporting or defending his positions.
Angus is a friend of Dose's, so when III was hired, I hit Angus up and asked him how Dose felt about III's hiring (lukewarm). As a result, I ended up with Dose's email address, so I shot him an email recently, asking him how he felt about the team's performance thus far, and why he is no longer on the board. Here is his response (which, for you lawyers out there, he gave me permission to post in its entirety ):
Hoyarooter:
Please pass along my good wishes to the fine folks on the Hoyatalk Board.
You can also assure those who had doubts that my absence has nothing to do with the Hoyas good fortunes this year.
Rather, I changed jobs a year ago and made a decision to stop investing so much time and energy into arguing about Hoya basketball. After the format change of the talk board, I actually tried to re-register to post a few comments but, for some reason, I really could not seem to get it to work. It may have something to do with the filtering software at our office. About nine months ago, they changed that programming, so I now am unable to even read the talk board from my office. Since the board is never as busy at night and I spend my evenings with my kids, I really haven't been that interested in posting from home.
In any event, I must admit that the Hoyas performance this year has far surpassed my expectations. I think that Thompson has done a great job getting this kids to buy into the system and stick with it even when they are down. Of course, the team's performance also reveals what an absolutely horrible coach Esherick was - but we all knew that - some of us for a lot longer than others.
The future looks bright, but I must admit that I'm not as excited about next season as some others because the conference schedule is going to be absolutely brutal and we'll be competing with 5 or 6 teams who make the tournament every season, as well as 4 or 5 more who have made it more regularly than us in the recent past.
All of that said, things certainly look better than the bleak days of one year ago, when all seemed lost.
Thanks for dropping me a line and say hello to all my old friends and adversaries at the talk board.
