To TC: They were executives. The buck stopped there. They had to be leaders and have a mind of their own because they were the last mind making the decision. This is exactly why I question both these candidates but Obama more. He seems like a fine Democratic member of the senate. But making decisions on his own? Setting the agenda for the nation? Sorry, I don't trust him with that. To say he's qualified because he won the primary process, well, Bush won the primary and the election...twice. OK - so if I have this straight - Governors are the most qualified, but Bush, who was a Governor, was a disaster. Great argument there. Why is it so hard to just admit that people should make some objective assessment of platforms, judgement, character, and experience?

Oh c'mon, you're trying to ridicule something that was never said, and you're completely ignoring what he said about Bush, specifically. Great argument there.

Whether someone has voted against their party or not in the past is what makes someone qualified to be present? Really? I guess Carter/Reagan/Clinton weren't qualified to be President since they were Governors and didn't have the ability to disagree with their party on the national level. Even though it PAINS me to say something nice about Jimmy Carter, he did not run a campaign solely based on a platform of post-partisanship and "change", yet having nothing of record to back that assertion.

Oh c'mon, you're trying to ridicule something that was never said, and you're completely ignoring what he said about Bush, specifically. Great argument there. Thanks Filo. I want my president to be smart, decisive, accomplished, have good judgement, be a strong and reliable leader, and genuinely care about this country. Oh yeah, and I want that person to have a track record that supports that. Being governor does not auto-qualify you to be president. Neither does being smart. Bush has set this bar so low that I think people have lost their mind on what this office means. I've actually heard people say they're voting for Barack Obama because he is "intellectually curious" unlike Bush. That's the qualification for being the leader of the free world now. Look at 1992. President, Governor, CEO...three accomplished leaders with records of running organizations successfully. THREE! It's almost like we cared who ran for this office. Now we can't find two and it seems like we can't find one. I know I sound like a crotchety old man (no offense ed) but I got through all my young life taking for granted I'd see presidents who were at least qualified for the office. Then came Bush. And after eight years of waiting for a presdient to get behind the Democrats answer with their own unqualified "party man" like it's "their turn." When I hear Democrats say Obama is qualified, I get the same feeling I get when I hear 70% of Republicans think Bush is doing a good job. I think it's outrageous and it almost strikes me of a religious fervor for a political party.

As opposed to John McCain's campaign of lies, distortions, and gimmickry? People saying there's no depth behind either campaign are too lazy to read the platforms.

If McCain wins, the Ten Commandments will be the only law of the land, and black people will be re-enslaved. Yee-ha!

I think it's outrageous and it almost strikes me of a religious fervor for a political party. 2008 Democratic candidates for President + Experience: Barack Obama -- Former Illinois state rep, 1st term US Senator from Illinois Hillary Clinton -- Former 1st lady, 2nd term US Senator from New York John Edwards -- former US Senator from N. Carolina, served 1 term Joe Biden -- 6th term US Senator from Delaware Chris Dodd -- Former US Representative, 5th term US Senator from Connecticut Mike Gravel -- Former Speaker of Alaska House of Representatives, Former US Senator from Alaska, served 2 terms, greatest Presidential ad campaign EVER Dennis Kucinich -- Former mayor of Cleveland, US Representative from Ohio Bill Richardson -- Former US Representative from New Mexico, former US Ambassador to the UN, former Secretary of Energy, current Governor of New Mexico, serving his 2nd term. 2008 Republican Candidates for President + Experience: John McCain -- Former US Representative, 4th term US Senator from Arizona Mike Huckabee -- Former Governor of Arkansas Mitt Romney -- Former CEO of SLOC, Former CEO of Bain Capital, Former Governor of Massachussets Ron Paul -- Longtime US Representative from Texas Fred Thompson -- Former US Senator from Tennessee (served 2 terms), actor Duncan Hunter -- Longtime US Representative from California Rudy Giuliani -- Former US Attorney, former mayor of NYC, partner in major US law firm So, if I'm reading GIGA correctly, this should be a Richardson-Romney contest, right?
