GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS BERNARD MUIR ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT DUE TO THE OUTBREAK OF THE NOROVIRUS OUR GAME THIS WEEKEND AT COLGATE HAS BEEN POSTPONED.
SEVERAL MEMBERS OF THE TEAM HAVE BEEN INFECTED AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN EXPOSED, AND BECAUSE THE INFECTION IS CONTAGIOUS, AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH MEDICAL PERSONNEL AT BOTH UNIVERSITIES AND WITH COLGATE'S ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AND THE PATRIOT LEAGUE, A DECISION WAS MADE NOT TO PLAY THE GAME. A MAKE-UP DATE HAS NOT BEEN REACHED AT THIS TIME.

I'm glad that this is being noted as a serious problem and that the necessary precautions are being taken to not spread this to our peer institutions

so sometime last night I heard this norovirus' outbreak may affect events this week, potentially affecting the game. anyone heard of similar?
I first heard (tues/wed) this bug affected circa 150 ppl... apparently its grown to 400-500, based on info I was told last night... anyone have better info out there to confirm this increase and its implications on HC week?
stinks we ruined colgate's HC weekend but I'd hate to see it having lasting effects on ours as well

Just out of curiosity...is there any chance they make up the game? Wouldn't think so since we don't share any common open dates. The FCS playoffs start on 11/29 the week after Colgate's regular season ends.
I would think the only way this game is played is if somehow it has any bearing on the Patriot League champion--whether Colgate is involve or there is some tiebreaker involving who beat the Raiders. Even then, might as well just call it as if we forfeited the game.

That's not cool. The game didn't happen because of reasons outside of the Hoyas' control. Whether we would have won or lost, it shouldn't be called forfeited.
Even though the guys don't win often, they try just as hard. Don't say stuff like that.

I'm just curious what happens if for some reason the GTown-Colgate game has relevance to the PL Championship. There's really no time to make up the game before the FCS playoffs start, and the PL does have an automatic-bid for the conference champ. I see it as not likely but not outside the realm of possibility that Colgate is involved in a tiebreaker somehow. What do you do if one team has a missing game? My guess is they work something out only applying to equal common opponents. Not that I wouldn't mind a Colgate-GU game tacked on during Thanksgiving weekend. My experience is those kind of games produce unusual results.

My bad.
So if Colgate gets the AQ, would they have to play the weekend right after their last game?
Ditto on Thanksgiving games... Man that would be fun!

A Thanksgiving weekend game is infeasible because that's the first weekend of the playoffs. If one team is in the playoff (for the sake of argument, Colgate) they wouldn't want to play two games, and if neither were in the playoffs it's likely neither would want to play at that point.
I know of only three scenarios, none likely:
1. GU and Colgate drop non-conf. games this week with Penn and Princeton and play instead. Not going to happen. 2. GU drops Marist, plays Fordham on 11/8, opening up 11/15 to play Colgate. HC would then play Fordham on 11/15. (However, Bucknell and Lehigh would also have to make changes which they probably won't.) 3. A midweek game on 11/25.
More on the front page Monday.

The first time I attended a game as a Hoya it was the season opener in 2003 against Colgate. I think because a ref was beyond stupid, Colgate got an extra minute on the clock and managed to score with less than 30 seconds left in the game.
If we play, which I doubt unless Colgate doesn't have an AQ, then I like our chances because we came so close then, and damn it, it has to balance out at some point.

This admittedly is a small issue, but I'll bet this cost about 150 career rushing yards for one of the best backs in recent PL history...and he's a DC product.
