and demand Biden disavow Obama's statement, as written in and read by Barack in his book on tape, that "the white man's greed fuels a worldof need"

Yeesh. Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen.
I wouldn't mind though, if she asked Biden why Barack Obama said that our economy has "strong fundamentals" after Obama & Biden and much of the media spent a week mocking John McCain (including in the first debate) for saying "the fundamentals of our economy are strong."
Funny how that hasn't been covered at all.

Someone needs to explain to Palin what the third rail is before suggesting this.

So he should get a pass? It's still vile race-baiting, is it not?
Would McCain get a pass if he quoted David Duke?

To the real third rail - In any of the debates, do you think any of the presidential or vice presidential candidates will be forced (yes forced) to detail their plan for "saving Social Security"? This means answering questions such as "will you support raising the retirement age and, if so, to what age?"; "will you support raising social security taxes and, if so, by how much and for whom?"; "will you support lowering social security payments and, if so, for whom and by how much?"; "do you plan on having a Social Security trust fund that cannot be raided to pay for other programs (a lockbox)?; and, finally "explain, in detail, how your plan for Social Security is fiscally sound".

Sadly, no. The debates are a farce. The moderators (including Mr. Lehrer) do not have the stones to call the candidates on the inevitable non-responses they give.
I would love to see a moderator say to one of these candidates
"That's nice, your time is up. Now you can have another two minutes to actually answer my question instead of giving me that canned talking point garbage. and we will keep doing this question until you answer it".

I don't think TC's comment had anything to do with Social Security... I think he was suggesting that a haughty East Coastal elitist should take the time to explain to the country bumpkin how a subway works. I nominate a dimwitted blowhard from Dela-where? as the haughty East Coast elitist to do it.

I nominate a dimwitted blowhard from Dela-where? as the haughty East Coast elitist to do it. Alaska has trains (although none are electrified to my knowledge). I don't think Sarah Palin knows what the "third rail" is in the metaphorical sense, and given what we've heard this week I don't think that's an outrageous estimation. I think it's kinda ironic every time someone here tries to attack "East Coast Elites". Whether you want ownership of it or not, Georgetown is an elitist East Coast institution, and in some sense, you are attacking yourself.

Where's hifi to call you guys conservative butt-buddies? This thread looks a lot like the one we Obama-folks got basically called "gay" for having. Regardless, we were making some valid points then, and you guys are here.
I'd actually like to hear someone ask OBAMA to explain a quotation from his own book. I'm sure he has a good answer. Or maybe he doesn't. After hearing what he has to say about it, THEN maybe ask Joe Biden to denounce. But why have Biden comment on something before getting the context and rationale for using such a line.
Also, I don't exactly think what with everything going on financially right now, we should poo-poo the idea of "white man's greed." There are a bunch of people with my skin color who are collecting million dollar severance packages for performing their jobs poorly, and the entire country is suffering because of it. I don't love the race component in the sentiment. It's not necessarily accurate. But I also don't think it's outlandish race-baiting.
As far as Obama saying that the fundamentals are strong, what was the context? I've heard about this several times but don't know precisely in what context he said such a thing. Regardless, it is dumb.
No one will ever talk about Social Security because no one is willing to admit that if average people live to 85, maybe they shouldn't get 20 years of fully-funded retirement.
Joe Biden is many things, but dim-witted? Really?

Would it be outlandish race-baiting to suggest that the subprime mess was occasioned by Congress' desire to allow minorities to own homes they couldn't otherwise afford?
Just wondering?

That is certainly another way to frame it. I don't love the idea of letting ANYONE, minority or not, own something that they can't possibly afford. Actually, I very much dislike the idea. Maybe it was well-intentioned, but it's created quite a mess. And out of the mess, there are undeniably obvious examples of absurd, outlandish greed.

Thanks for clearing that up. Under that rubric, Obama is a race-baiter by quoting Wright's horse manure in his book. I'll take that.

Lehrer tried that at the last debate. And Obama still wouldn't pinpoint one of his proposed programs that he would consider cutting. His answer was -- dare I say -- Palin-esque.
