JT2 should tune in to HoyaChat during the games. Forget Chvotkin. In all seriousness, I should save this one for t-shirt material. There are some good candidates in there.

yet another article where I sit back and am thankful that, while I never got to experience the original era of GTown basketball, I am here now as JT3 begins to lead Georgetown back to glory and that he's doing it the right way with the right kind of people. Right now we have players that are fun to watch play and fun to cheer for and that put out consistent effort. This is a special team and I think one we will all be telling our kids and grandkids about (or in some cases, are telling their kids and grandkids about). We were there when Hibbert dunked the ball. We were listening when Cook went deep to Owens to avenge 85 and we were there when Georgetown basketball began it's new era of dominance under JT3. We should all be thankful for that.

At first, you get respect. Then you get fear. Fear is what we want to get back.
Definitely T Shirt Material

Another great article that makes you feel great about being a part of this experience that is Georgetown basketball.
I realize this is another one chock full of great inspirational quotes about our Coach, his Pops, and our program, and they're all worthy of repetition. But for some reason the image of the Taco Bell story just makes me laugh out loud--in part picturing Big John in line buying his son dinner after a game, and also imagining what John Thompson sounds like when he says that one line.

Where is the Taco Bell near MCI? Maybe we should stake it out! JK...

Is JTIII's office at the MCI center?
I'm not stalking him or anything, I just assumed that they'd have pretty decent facilities for him on campus...

What does this mean?
[In regards to RoyRoyRoy] "He plays best," says Thomspon, "when the moon is full."
Humorous (or other) interpretations are welcome

After thinking about the article, does anybody get a certain Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker feel to the Boswell piece? Don't get me wrong, I love Darth Vader and being the bad guy (yes, I AM a Detroit Piston fan), but did anybody else see a similarity?
Maybe I'm just trying really hard to procrastinate at work (definitely a possibility).

"I don't think I ever had as little talent as he does now."
JTII may want to drop this from his soundbite package. It's really not too classy(or true really imo)

There must be some Taco Bell around the MCI center 'cause the article says he dropped the taco salads off with a security guard. It doesn't make sense that he would be watching game film at MCI, but it's not like there are security guards protecting McDonough.

"I don't think I ever had as little talent as he does now." JTII may want to drop this from his soundbite package. It's really not too classy(or true really imo) I completely agree, wild. The Boswell piece is great but JT Jr. has been singing this tune on his radio show for a while. I think it serves at least two purposes: 1) Provides cover for his chosen successor, Esh, for last year's collapse (not to mention underperformance in the previous years) and 2) Diminishes expectations for JTIII's and the team's performance for the remainder of the year.... Remember that JT Jr. was a master of managing expectations (he likes to call it, "fattening frogs for snakes."). I'm not going to dive into the expectations game (talent vs. coaching/nature vs. nurture debate) except to say, so far this year, the combination for me has been fantastic. But JT Jr. does a tremendous disservice to the players in claiming he never had less talent than this team does (I'm sure this team could run his early 70s teams off the floor...).....

Probably the second five on this team could run the 72-73 team off the floor. it's just a different era.
That said, big Merlin is still one of my all-time favorite hoyas.

I was just thinking that the fear quote is something Jr. would say, but III doesn't seem like he ever would.

I agree about JT3. He doesn't seem to be a guy who stirs up controversy, although I am sure he knows how to rile his team up.

It's really not too classy(or true really imo) JMO...I'm quite sure Big John didn't mean it as an insult to the '04-'05 Hoyas...He may just be 'Hyping' up his sons coaching skills... I think he did have some teams that were less talented. But I can't remember one of his teams with this shallow of a bench... Big John use to recruit athletes. They were able to run up and down the court and play his style. They didn't necessarily posess(sp) great talent for the game. But they created so much chaos and opportunities from their chaotic style. Press...Rebound...Steal...Make lay-ups... My brother and I were watching a Hoya game, and over a period of about 5 minutes, either no one scored or there were like 2 pts scored. The announcer said, "That might have been the most exciting 5 minutes of basketball I've ever seen!"

"I don't think I ever had as little talent as he does now." JTII may want to drop this from his soundbite package. It's really not too classy(or true really imo) "They have some talented players," says the older Thompson, now 62, "but they are shallow on the bench. They're young. They start three freshmen. They've even got three walk-on players. I don't think I ever had as little talent as he does now." If you read the full quote, I think he's not out of line at all. We start a freshman walk-on. We give minutes to AKD. We go 7-8 deep max. He's not talking about the individual talents of any of the starting five -- he's talking about the fact that Bethel is at NC State, Hall is at CofC, Townes is at Arkansas. In fact, when you think about it, it's much more an indictment of Esh than the players.
