I think the righties are grasping at straws here. While the skit was in unquestionably poor taste, this isn't some liberal conspiracy to derail the McCain-Palin ticket. It is just SNL trying to be funny and "push the envelope" -- if anything, I am sure the libs in Hollywood (and NYC) have realized by now that the more they attack Sarah Barracuda -- especially on a personal level -- the stronger she becomes as a figure for middle America.
It never ceases to amaze how far partisan politics can go, to the point where one side can't recognize the equally distasteful tactics employed by the opposition.

Didn't see it. Don't really care that much. I think we should remember what one of us "righties" said after the initial Palin sketch -- that SNL isn't really going to impact this election that much. I'm sure it was every bit as tasteless as has been mentioned. I'm sure it was also at least a little funny. And I'm also sure that the more Palin is assailed on personal (rather than policy) points, the more it achieves the opposite of its intended effect.
I would say this, related to last weekend. I don't mind if Al Franken wants to contribute ideas for SNL sketches (or that's what I've been told). While I have given him credit for throwing his hat into the ring and putting some skin in the game, I don't think he's really proven himself to be all that serious a Senate candidate, so he can do that if he wants. I would like it though, if Lorne Michaels also invited, say Dennis Miller, to contribute some sketch ideas. Just as funny a guy from the other side of the aisle.

I did see the sketch. The target of the sketch was the New York Times writers, who thought they could get around Alaska via taxi. In general, SNL has not attacked any of the candidates this year - they have attacked :
- the press (the Tina Fey / Hillary sketch) - McCain's ad people (the McCain Ad Read sketch) - the New York Times (the Alaska NYT sketch)
I think it's pretty ironic that Drudge, who has provided links for years accusing the other side of ridiculous political correctness, is offended by a pretty mild form of political satire. The Daily Show is 10x as aggressive nightly as SNL.

That's what counts.

Radio is a VERY conservative medium. If you looked at the Top 20 radio shows, who'd come out as progressive? Maybe Imus and those two guys from Car Talk - and that's it.
Blogs - split 50 / 50. For every Daily Kos you have a Michele Malkin crying about Rachel Rae wearing a Kaffiyeh while drinking Dunkin' Donuts.
Watercooler - probably red/blue split.
Crying about SNL is crazy - Lorne is for McCain, most of the performers seemed to have been for Hillary. If Palin is so bad that a Tina Fey impersonation can sink her, than should she really be VP?

There you go making assumptions again. I wasn't talking about talk radio, I was talking about radio in general. Stuff like morning shows (I listen to Bob & Tom sometimes) and the drivetime news hour. Those types of shows are mainstream and I heard lots of clips played from that one specific skit.

I'm talking about morning zoos too. By and large, they are conservative.

Having seen the sketch, you'd have to be either a complete moron or lying to find it in any a criticism of Palin. Perhaps it was tasteless, perhaps not (who hasn't made an incest joke at some point?), but the point of the sketch was to make fun of the "Big City Folks'" mistaken opinions of rural American and he fact that they'd never survive outside of Manhattan. Palin wasn't even the focus of the sketch. Just a device to pretend to send a bunch of New Yorkers to Alaska so they could show they can't drive, need their therapists and most of them think Queens is exotic.

SNL has been awful this season after a reasonably nice bounceback the last couple. The hosts have been duds but the writing has been worse.

Watching Palin right now is like watching Leno's Jaywalking skits. The SNL sketch of the Couric interview last night may be the best since the Bush/Gore debate parodies. www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/

She's really turned into a Harriet Miers situation, but there's no way out of this one.

She's really turned into a Harriet Miers situation, but there's no way out of this one. Except that Harriet Myers had no visible support outside the White House. The NYT's reaction to Palin (" Horrors! She doesn't have a passport! ") plays to a populist segment that is just fine with her small town persona. In the end, people don't vote for a VP anyway, but if McCain wins, she becomes heir presumptive to the White House and the likely nominee in 2012. Matt Damon dismissed Palin as a bad Disney movie. Maybe a Lorne Michaels movie would have been more appropriate: "First Mom" (8:00, FOX): Tina Fey stars as an PTA mom who, through a strange set of circumstances, becomes President of the United States. Co-starring Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler, Tim Meadows, and a special appearance by Ted McGinley.
