So we already know that Palin is against a rape exception when it comes to outlawing abortion- which is appalling in my view. Now this just came out today: www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/21/palin.rape.exams/index.htmlMaking women pay for rape kits? That's just disgusting. Wasilla paid over a million dollars for an ice hockey rink, but $15,000 for rape kits was deemed too much for the budget. If she wasn't aware that this was going on, then she's even less qualified to be vice president then I thought.

This didn't just come out today. tinyurl.com/3etngsAlso, can you just create a "I hate Sarah Palin" thread and post all of this stuff there? Do we really need a new thread every time you find some new reason to hate her?

Every year, the National Park Service threatens to close down Yellowstone if they don't get their money. Wasilla, as a small town, has to account for every single dollar. Getting the state to pay for it, rather than getting it from the town's budget, seems legitimate politcs. Assuming that the money will somehow magically appear is not good public policy. Oh, and best of luck getting people to believe that a woman is pro-blame the rape victim.

She paid $1.3 million over budget to build an ice rink- I think that finding $15,000 in the budget somewhere, especially if every other town in Alaska was able to do so, is not an unreasonable expectation.

Ok, you win. She's in favor of rape.

Of course I did not watch it but I have heard that SNL did a skit basically saying that Sarah Palin's husband had an incestual relationship with his daughter. Is this correct? And, if so, what's the reaction?

And, if so, what's the reaction? I didn't see it either, but I believe it was more making fun of NY Times reporters as out of touch with the entire concept of Alaska. I'll see if it's up on NBC's site.

Yeah the sketch also involved a NY Times reporter asking about polar bear attacks and another asking about whether Alaska provides services for a person "whose gender is in transition." I wouldn't take the sketch as a serious shot.

But you could probably just rephrase this thread title a bit and it would be a nice catch-all, and pretty accurate to boot: Palin's stances, in general, towards rape victims are extremeI guess McCain did what he thought he had to do to court the far right, but I am hating his selection of Palin more and more each day.

I don't think anyone would buy that the skit intended to do anything of the sort. Palin is either for the rape exception or she isn't, which is the underlying issue in this thread. Chances are that she hasn't taken a stand on the matter as with many other issues, and John McCain would play both sides at least during campaign season.

Ed, do you bite on every opinion that the Drudge Report feeds you? SNL also suggested Obama was for "universal health care" (i.e. covering Mars, Venus, Neptune, and Jupiter) and that there was a connection between Obama, Tupac Shakur, O.J. Simpson, and Kwame Kilpatrick.

I think all the Obama supporters here put up with months years of Bill Clinton sketches that implied a whole lot of things. No one saw that sketch and thought, "Oh, maybe Todd IS the father!" It's even below the McCain campaign to try to turn an SNL sketch into an issue.

Would you have the same reaction if it had inferred that Obama had an incestual relationship with one of his daughters? Well I personally did have the same reaction to the infamous New Yorker cover, which was almost exactly the same type of satire (neither was particularly funny, but both were totally harmless). It was not a bit about Todd Palin, it was a bit about the liberal New York Times. But stay righteous, my man.

I am righteous, my man. I happen to believe that any so-called satire that even suggests incest by someone, whoever they are if they are specifically named, belongs in the gutter. It is not funny, it's demeaning. And, anyone who believes it's funny has a problem.

SNL also suggested Obama was for "universal health care" (i.e. covering Mars, Venus, Neptune, and Jupiter) and that there was a connection between Obama, Tupac Shakur, O.J. Simpson, and Kwame Kilpatrick. You can like Drudge or not, but all he does is link to news stories and other sites. He obviously picks what he links to, but the links are what they are. Here's part of the skit: "What about the husband?" asked a Times reporter during a mock assignment meeting for the paper. "You know he's doing those daughters. I mean, come on. It's Alaska." The assignment editor for the Times, portrayed by actor James Franco, responded: "He very well could be. Admittedly, there is no evidence of that, but on the other hand, there is no convincing evidence to the contrary. And these are just some of the lingering questions about Governor Palin."
The final shot showed an image of a New York Times page, with headlines that included: "While No Direct Evidence of Incest in Palin Family Emerges, Counter Evidence Remains Agonizingly Elusive" and "In a Small Alaska Town, Doubts Still Linger."
I realize the skit claims to have been a lampoon of the Eastern media and their views towards Alaska, but there are differing ways to go about it, some more tasteful than others (yes, I realize this is SNL).
