United Airlines has announced that they will charge for meals in economy and business classes on all flights to Europe from Dulles.
Seriously, when will this cr*p stop? Yes, I know fuel prices are high, but regardless of expenses, driving customers away is NEVER a sound business strategy. This sort of nickel and dimeing might work when your competition is other lousy US airlines, but not against quality airlines like British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, and Air France. They will absolutely slaughter United on this once passengers realize what's going on.
Lufthansa and SAS must also be p*ssed, since their customers on codeshare flights will also have to deal with this BS.
As for me, I already swore off United after I took them to London earlier this year. If they're going to charge for meals, they'd better get some better stuff. To eat the pasta, you had to play a not-so-fun game called "find the pasta," and their French toast was some of the most vile stuff I've ever tasted. Seriously, I've had better tasting vomit.
