I was shocked though to read that Henry had 26 points! I just didnt notice all those put backs. Henry had a "quiet" 26 points, a good majority of which came on free throws.

Question for those who saw the games this summer. Looking at the stats as they came in for each game it seemed to me our 3-point shooting was very much sub-par. The question: will we have a weak point in our offense due to sub-par 3-point shooting?

Given the style of Kenner League play, it's really hard to transfer a lot of the stats to regular season play. Guys who think they are hot will take a ton of 3 pointers. 3 pointers are not in the flow of the offense. Shot selection generally is questionable. The tombs coach is pretty passive .. doesn't really get on anyone. Perhaps if Coach Rodney had the reins of the Tombs one year, our players would be more reluctant to lob up so many 3s.

Three-point shooting for Hoya players were weak last summer and the summer before that too. It makes no difference. That being said...I hope the Hoyas don't rely on that three-point shot as much as in previous years. We have guys who can get to the hole and pick up fouls. III needs to take advantage of that. And Summers needs to drive more too instead of pretending he is Reggie Miller.

why? i have recently learned that reggie miller is a hof'er
who wouldnt want to make the hall of fame?
seriously though, summers is a bit of a turnover machine when he puts the ball on the floor during the halfcourt set...charges and turnovers show up in bunches
im counting on others to be the slasher

It will be an interesting year for the coaching staff. 1) A lot of new contributors -- out of an expected eight or so man rotation, three are freshman, one is a transfer and one or two more didn't get a lot of gameplay last year. 2) We have reduced outside shooting (Wright is good, but he won't shoot wide open threes as well as Jon) and even more so, reduced low post play (I don't see a freshman Monroe keeping up with a Jr/Sr Hibbert), we're going to need to penetrate more and run more to get easier baskets. 3) With an expected defensive slip (at least for me), I think the offense will need to get better -- not just be as good as last year.

I am seeing alot of Chris Wright love on the board, but I just can not say it is warranted. I have read this board for awhile, but decided to post after he had been getting so much love in his Kenner League games.
I watched about 4 Tombs games down the stretch with an NBA scout, and he did not see Wright in the same light as some of you are seeing. Wright is not that great of a ball handler, takes way too many bad shots, does not pass the ball on offense, and turns the ball over way too much. This was all coming from his performance in summer league games, so take what you want from it. Sure, Wright can score points, but so can Ricky Davis, and what has scoring ever got him? Now this scout did agree that Wright is a talent but he has a ton to learn. He forces things way too much, as this scout said "It is like he is trying to make the league in one game".
There were so many possessions where Wright would bring the ball up, not make one pass and shoot the ball. Seeing him driving into the lane getting off an out of control shot, missing it, and crying to officials afterwards can get tiresome. There were some plays where Wright tried to drive into the lane and get off a shot that had this scout laughing out loud out how bad that play just was.
On the other hand this scout was big on Jason Clark. He said that Clark has long arms and big hands. Those are two intangibles NBA scouts look for in a player. Because of Clark's long arms, he plays more like a 6'5 guy on defense. He also liked the way he saw Clark run the pick and roll. He also thought Clark was a very good athlete with quickness and hops. He wasn't big on Clark's outside shot, but was not down on it either.
I don't want to open up a can of worms, but after watching all most all of the Tombs Kenner League games, I truly believe that Georgetown will be better off with Clark on the floor, over Wright this season.

Interesting perspective, Justabballfan. Let me put out a counterpoint before you get attacked (and you will).
There's no doubt Chris needs to play within the team framework. I don't disagree. I can't comment on his Kenner play in terms of that.
What I can say is that I have learned that when you have a good coach who can develop players, you focus on what a play CAN do, not what he can't. Why? Because Thompson and staff will help him develop decision-making skills and other areas where he may be weaker. I'm confident of that. (Never mind that Wright played well within the offense last year).
Wright may be a little aggressive compared to what we're used to, but we've had a series of players who have had weaknesses in their games but outperformed expectations -- including those of NBA scouts. Why? They learned to play to their strengths.
Chris Wright is quick, strong, has a good shot and a knack for scoring. He has good court vision and if he isn't always pass first, he's certainly not a bad passer. I'm confident that his shot selection will be better in Hoyas games simply because it is a real game -- but he'll also develop a sense for what's possible.
I can see Clark developing like a Rajon Rondo with less size but a better shot. But I don't think he's ready to run a Top 25 team from the point full time.
You've got to respect an NBA scout's opinion, but they also make a LOT of mistakes. When they focus on things a player can change, it doesn't worry me that much. They said a lot of things about Roy, Jon, Patrick, etc.

I'd agree with some of what your "Friend" said, btu the last two games I saw Chris play he played more judiciously, Plus I dont know what you can really take from some of the play in the league in terms of it "translating" to the NBA. Watching the game yesterday Roger Mason jr. shocked me in the fact that he couldnt stay in front of Chris or Jason. i'd figure he'd faced something like that in terms of speed so i dont know. But I made the same point earlier about Chris not showing me what I wanted to see from him in the early Tombs games this summer. But yesterday, and the last regular season game, i loved what i saw. So its a mix bag...I do think if Chris had played the whole season last year, we'd have been prohibitive favorties to get to the Final 4. it was just that aggresiveness we needed. So in terms of him not making one pass and shoot the ball, in a real game i dont know if that necessarily will happen, so I dont think he can extrapolate that from Kenner to how talented a player is. I agree though that Chris needs to stop going 1-3 in fast break situations, but I saw him do less of it as time went on. So if your friend really is a NBA scout I dont think he can be watching this really and getting a "true" idea of a guy's game project it forward to a NBA ability which your post seems to suggest if so...i dont know if he is a very good scout...(not a swipe)

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. I guess there's a reason you haven't posted until now. (Happy SFHoya? ) Look, Wright's played, what, 15-16 games in College, most while dealing with or coming back from an injury. If this was a rising senior we're talking about, that would be one thing to be worried about what an NBA scout was saying. Plus, as your own post verifies, the NBA is all about size, length, and athleticism. They would rather take someone like Jason Clark and hope he develops an outside shot than someone like Chris Wright, who was 3-time All-Met and actually showed glimpses in the college game. Wright has three more years to improve his game - that's an eternity. All that being said, we don't have to pick between Wright and Clark. We can play them together. They can take turns bringing the ball up or initiating the offense. This is especially true in JT3's offensive approach. Who was the point guard last year? Wallace? Sapp? The year before? Green? I doubt anyone on this board would pick Wright to play over Clark (to the extent such a choice has to be made).

I thought that Wright played poorly for the first 2/3 of the Kenner season. He was having trouble scoring and made a lot of bad decisions. He picked it up over the last 3-4 games and looked a lot better scoring wise, although his passing was still questionable at times.

Chris is not ready for the NBA. Georgetown does not play in the NBA. And thus, I think Chris will be fine not playing in the NBA this year.

Basically all the flaws you pointed out come down to decision making, which I think we all realize is a problem for Wright, but to make those judgements based on a summer league game is a little crazy. If it were a game and he is making the same exact decsions than yes, it will be a major problem, but in all the games I saw him play on TV (small sample size I know), we were better with him on the court and he didn't make many (yes there were a few) bad decisions. But I guess if he makes bad decisions in Kenner League, we should consider giving his scholarship back to Rivers, maybe Crean would agree to a swap.

He made an immediate impact distributing the ball. And I'll definitely take a few bad choices on his part if it means we have an aggressive guard who isn't afraid (and is athletically capable) of taking it to the rack.
