Patrick Beverly..
With him being in the news of not returning at Arkansas....coupled with some more Clark reports from Kenner...
I came to this comparison having not seen Clark live..
Is it a fair one?

The thing that has really struck me about Clark is his length. Depending on how his body develops, he could be a 3 position player at GU and a guard's version of Jeff Green. While Jeff could "project down" to the SF/point forward spots, Clark could conceivable project up to the point forward/SF spot.
I don't have a great comparison, but his length reminds me a bit of Josh Pace. Clark is already more skilled than Pace, however.

Bev's a stud. If Clark's that good, the Hoyas will be nasty this season.

If Clark continues to improve the way he has this summer, he will be a stud sooner rather than later. Great fundamentals, good shot, very good defense, and a consummate team player. Easy to see now why he was DC POY.

Still think Rivers left more because of the pace of Gtown games and because he knew/felt he wasn't going to beat out Chris for the starting job.

I think it is easy to see why Rivers left now. It would take all afternoon for him to score 28 in a shoot around let alone a Kenner League game. We'll miss the lock-down D, but you simply can't keep Jason Clark off the floor for lockdown defense.

I dont think the gap in defensive ability between Jason and Rivers is that great. in today's game Roger mason repeatedly thought I can back down this skinny kid and just shoot over him finding that this kid has plastic arms that stretch and he couldnt get a clean look. Jason competes at a higher motor than most people. He will score but it wont be all perimeter...he will drive to score, get out on the break, and unbelievably at 6-2 170 get among the trees grab rebounds and score on put backs.

very glad to hear that jason is such a great rebounder...hopefully he'll make it so we won't give up 10 offensive boards/game to the pitt guards this year!

But the best part is that more than just getting to the ball, he holds on to it and knows what to do with it when he gets it.

Still disagree. From what I've been told and from what I've picked up on Rivers had some issues with his "standing" within the team but it had nothing to do with Clark. While I'm sure Rivers may have played some pickup games with Clark on campus, I don't think he saw him as the main threat (whether that was because he underestimated him or because he was just very confident of himself I can't say).
Rivers, from as much as I can tell, wanted to be a starter but that wasn't going to likely happen. And I've been told he may have clashed with a player or two although whether that is true can't be proved by me. And of course I think there was some frustration on his part because he has pro aspirations but in Gtown's offensive system, the way the Hoyas have ran it for the two seasons he was here, he wasn't going to be able to put up the numbers to draw NBA attention and cover up his liabilities. He probably thought he needed a system in which the team ran up and down the floor and he could pile up a lot of assists on the break; he probably wanted a more opened up/free-flowing offense that would likely include even more scoring opportunities for him (and if some of the rumors from this past spring were true he wasn't the only current Hoya who felt such frustrations).
That's likely one reason why Jeremiah decided to hook up with Crean. Just by looking at Dominic James you can tell that Crean puts hardly any restrictions on his guards. I'm guessing that Jeremiah, and he may be deluding himself, thinks sitting out a year to work on some of his flaws and then playing in a faster and less-restrictive offense would be what he needed to improve his on-court results. At the very least it will be a fresh start for him and sometimes that's all you need. Those who apparently had some inside info or just some wild speculation regarding why Rivers left never once brought up Clark's name to me.

We'll miss the lock-down D, but you simply can't keep Jason Clark off the floor for lockdown defense. I never needed to see Rivers score a lot of points in a KL game. What I wanted out of him was to be a pure point guard with great size, good vision, great defensive ability and an outside shot that had to be respected, not feared. Well, the outside shot was still a long way off by the time he left Gtown. But I thought Rivers had the other characteristics I mentioned or at least was close to achieving those results. Its a shame he left in some ways because I would have LOVED to have seen Rivers, Clark and Wright (who is no slouch on defense) all out on the court at the same time in certain situations to put a lockdown on an opposing team's perimeter players.

I heard that he was concerned with PT, a starting spot, and how the arrival of another high caliber guard like Clark would affect his minutes. Maybe he didn't want to fight for it... I don't buy the playing style excuse. He knew what he was gettig into.

I would add that I was expecting more control (i.e., good handle, good passing, etc...) and penetration to disrupt zones from Rivers.
But, we're getting off subject...

being that I live in Los Angeles...the only time i've seen clark play was in the capital classic...which I must have watched 5 times by now. I immediately noticed his speed and his ability to find the rim...also saw him do a sick crossover. what I wasn't really able to ascertain was how good his shot is....will he be a 3 point threat for us this year?

I think that's a fair comparison in that they're both scorers, not shooters and long, lean defenders.
