According to Miami Herald--expect CBS to announce tomorrow that Billy Packer has been replaced as the lead basketball analyst at CBS by Clark Kellogg. Packer will work the ACC games he does during the week--but Kellogg is getting bumped to #1 team with Nantz and will call Final Four--with Greg Anthony a possible replacement for Kellogg in the Studio with Greg Gumbel and Seth Davis.

During the NBA finals, I really enjoyed Jeff Van Gundy, but it would have been far better he were teamed with Marv Albert. No one sounds like the NBA.. especially important games, more than Marv. Yessssss!

I can't believe he hung around for 34 years. What a tough monkey.

Wow. Now all Georgetown students and alumni will be able to go back to praying for China to become democratic.

Yessssss! Always hated Marv Albert. Give me the old CBS play-by-play guy instead. I'm shocked by this development. I actually like Packer more than most people.

I like Kellogg well enough, but it should be all Gus Johnson, all the time. "I just realized something. Is today March 1st? Buckle up!"

All we need now is for Gus Johnson to replace Nantz. Gotta love the energy!

This calls for breaking out the tune we sang in New South while watching the GU - Georgia Tech East Regionals Final 23 years ago (sung to the tune of nanana nanana, hey hey hey, goodbye...)
Billy Packer, Billy Packer, hey hey hey, you're a Edited

Best news I will hear all week!
I've been BEGGING for his ouster on this board for a LONG time. As a basketball fan, SOME of his insight was knowledgeable. As an official & a fan of professionalism, most of his comments simply provided evidence of how lazy he has been---no research, unwillingness to accept developing programs as viable competition, total ignorance of any rule change since 1985, condescending to nearly every guest to ever join him & Nantz at the table.
I might be the happiest person in America today!

It should be Gus and Raf as the number one pair. That would be heaven.

Raf and Bilas (a.k.a. Raf Mk. 2) would also make a great lead pair.

Packer's bitter and gets way too nasty at times, but I agree with MCI and KC -- Nantz' sloppy sentimental tone is what kills their team.

Finally! Will Dukie V. be next? Doubtful, Packer got canned because of his overbearing negativity and general dislike for the game. Dickie is annoying but he's always positive and that attracts viewers and casual fans.

So who is the worst? (since we seem to be asking those kinds of questions this July).
To be clear, I am talking about play-by-play guys and color commentators, not studio analysts.
I think you also have to have a certain minimum number of "at bats" so to speak, so that disqualifies BUM (though on his few occasions at the mic, he was just loathsome).
I never thought Packer was the worst. An angry old curmudgeon maybe, but not the worst.
For me, it is not even Dick Vitale. Annoying, distractiing, sometimes infuriating, sure. But not the worst.
In my opinion, there are two that are far worse than anyone else. I mean, it's not even CLOSE!
#2 Dick Enberg -- the senility is tough enough to take on its own, but you combine that with an uncomfortable level of homoeroticism and it gets downright creepy listening to one of his broadcasts. (I would add "not that there's anything wrong with that," except that there IS something wrong with that....when it's a case of college kids and a creepy old man).
#1. Mike Patrick -- hands down, no question, no debate. He makes Vitale look like a detached, objective observer. Honestly, I watch LESS college basketball because of Mike Patrick. I hae worn down my Mute button because of Mike Patrick. I probably would hate the ACC about half as much as I do if it weren't for Mike Patrick. He needs to be fired and he needs to be fired YESTERDAY. He is, quite simply, un-listen-to-able. (I'm pretty sure that's a word).
(I also find Gus Johnson a little annoying; sorry everyone, I'm probably in the minority there; I just prefer a more mild-mannered Brad Nessler (the best, in my opinion) to the Screaming Banshee that is Gus.)
