Best of luck to Chris. Had a feeling this might happen after he re-classified. It definitely opens up the possibility and/or probability of landing a more high profile recruit in the 2010 class. Like KC said, Vaughn brings the same game & build to the table (sans Chris' superior rebounding label) and, in essence, replaced the role that would have been Chris'.

I wish him the best too. And given what a terrific player he is, he won't have any trouble finding a good home. There will be tons of suitors.

Yeah, I agree with the consensus here. Once he reclassified, I figured the likelihood of ever seeing him in a GU uniform was slim at best. I wish him success, provided he doesn't choose to attend Maryland or Syracuse.

I'm happy for him that he figured this out before he arrived, which could have been highly unpleasant for him and created negative tension within team chemistry. Best of luck to Chris.

my initial thoughts while reading this thread were..."sheeesh...this kid has some nerve given how patient we've had to be with him". Then I realized that in that time...the landscape of georgetown big men had really changed since his he committed. in that time we added dash, vaughn, monroe and I believe even sims to the mix. he no longer would be "the man" here and would actually be battling just to get some minutes. I trully think this is the best move for everybody. where does this leave us in terms of available schollies for next year??... I count at least 2. Why do people always assume the worst? Georgetown and Chris have split ways. Wish the best of luck to him and move on. He's a good player and from what the folks at Hoyareport say, a good kid. The scholarship table is at the bottom of this thread: Recruiting ThreadFor next year, we have Hollis, Riley and two more open, but if that would only leave us one pre-transfer, pre-NBA scholarship for '10. We're a bit unbalanced because of what is effectively back to back four man classes while a balanced average would be about three per year. SFHoya... You're causing yourself a lot of unnecessary stress. Take a deep breath and reread what I wrote. You must have misread or misinterpreted something. My point is that I understand why the kid would want to reconsider given how the landscape of the team changed so drastically since he committed. We have a bunch a bids now whereas we didn't have any when he gave his verbal. I hope the kid has a great career... but do think he might struggle getting the minutes he hopes for at georgetown.

Good luck to him, hopefully he will go somewhere that can use his basketball talents and give him an easier access to an education

I'm with the posters in the "good riddance" camp. Just a lot of drama.

Braswell's recruitment begs the following question: Does the coaching staff first explore academic eligibility or potential ineligibility in the case of Braswell prior to recruiting? It seems to me that Braswell had very little chance of meeting academic requirements to become a basketball player on the Hilltop.

It seems to me that Braswell had very little chance of meeting academic requirements to become a basketball player on the Hilltop. Well, his condition wasn't diagnosed until under a year ago. Though his academic difficulties were known previously (see his issues to get on the court at Dematha). But enough about Chris- he's gone, ok. The bigger question of making commitments to high school kids in their freshman and sophomore years, before they have taken any higher level courses or standardized testing, is very problematic for a university that aspires to have student-athletes. It is certainly possible to find some 14 and 15 year olds who show real academic aptitude and also shows talent to play basketball at the Division I level, but it is also likely that the academic and athletic skills will develop at slightly different rates in teenagers, and it would be far better if coaches and admissions offices alike could make their determination at age 18 than at age 13.

good luck to braswell, but honestly, we all went to georgetown and saw what classes the bball players did and didn't take and what majors they had (few notable exception, rubin, j-wall, etc). They get ALOT of help (alot of it deserved with the amount of time the dedicate to the game), i don't have much sympathy for players that become academically ineligible. (though as i say that, i have to admit, many big time college players don't come in without a strong acadmic foundation, and i'm sure many have undiagnosed ADHD or other learning disabilities).
anyways, i'm glad the braswell issue it resolved amicably. Allows both sides to move on. -M
