This past weekend I don't know if everyone saw this for College Game Day in Connecticut at 11:30 am show, Jay Bilas went on to say "I think the ACC is overrated. The top 4 teams, Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech are strong and that is what makes the ACC conference the best, but the Big East is deeper from top to bottom. Ha Jay? Can't you just admit your bias, and just say the Big East is better? I guess his Duke pride won't allow him to say it. What do you guys think?

When Jay says that the ACC "is" the best, it all depends on what the meaning of "is" is.

They were singing the praises of Miami early on. Miami!!! Florida State, Miami, Va.Tech, Clemson, UVa are all, as Busta Rhymes would say....doo-doo brown.

Speaking of Vitale, I was watching a game on ESPN Classic channel the other night between North Carolina and North Carolina State played in the late 70's. It was just before halftime when I realized that one of the announcers was "Dickey V" The commentary and analysis were very good and professional. There was no high pitched rants and proclaiming this player or coach the greatest ever ,just regular professional reporting. Obviously he has made himself over to be a "showtime" act for the ESPN games he announces.

Is it sacrilege for me to say that I think there is merit in that statement - I have heard it a bunch, and I don't necessarily disagree with it...
The top 4 teams in the ACC would likely be the top 4 teams in the Big East - sure GT had their problems, but they returned everyone from their Final 4 squad last year, so I don't think they will be down long.
That being said - with the resurgence of GU and the tough games up and down the conference schedule, are we the deepest conference yes...will we be the best conference next year - I would like to think so - but this year's Big East certainly does not have a UNC, Duke or WF in it...

Best is a tough word. What matters? Are all teams weighted equally, or do tourney teams count more? Their best teams are better than ours. UNC, Wake and Duke are far better than our best; how much credit do they get for being "far better."
In my mind:
UNC > Cuse Duke > BC Wake > Nova
Tech = UConn
GU > Maryland Pitt > NC State ND > Miami
Providence > Clemson West Virginia = Virginia Florida State = Rutgers St. John's = Vatech Seton Hall is down here as well.

I would agree with most of that SF - I think that GT with BJ Elder at full strength is a smidgeon better than UConn, but i think the rest of the stuff is accurate...I guess I am placing significant weight on how good UNC, Duke and Wake are, as well as a GT team when at full strength - But the great thing about the Big East is that we can take on the ACC teams and make them play our more physical game... All I am saying is that watching Duke, UNC and Wake play, the talent level and discipline is just great, and I don't see that in the Big East this year - but it all comes back to how you define "best" i guess

SFHoya - Why do you compare Wake and Nova, rather than Wake and Uconn and then Gtown/Nova vs. Ga Tech?

Personal view, no other reason. I think Nova is a better team than either UConn or Georgetown. Or has been. Maybe not at the end of the season. Either way, I don't think any of the three are better than Wake. And Uconn/Tech seems an apt comparison, as both are extremely talented, but somewhat struggling teams.

You guys are crazy. Carolina better than Syracuse? , Duke better than BC?, and Tech=UCONN. Tech = UCONN to me is insane. The top 4 teams of ACC are good, but I don't think they are better than our top 4.

carolina, in terms of talent and playmaking, is a much better team than syracuse in my opinion - i don't think it is that controversial.

Didn't say it was controversial, I just don't think Carolina is that great, along with the rest of the top 4. Good, but not great.

I totally agree with Bilas.
I'd put my money on Wake or UNC versus BC, Syracuse and Nova 99 times out of 100.
But if you match up the leagues in a series, we'd come out on top for sure.

You'd be out of your mind, my friend! I hope we see one of those match ups later in the season.
