Wow. Wasn't expecting that one.
I think he spoke at a Georgetown graduation in the not-too recent past and gave an enjoyable talk. His iconic moment will almost certainly be the 2000 election and that frickin' whiteboard.

Wow. Just saw that & yes, that is quite a shocker.
For now I will simply wish comfort to his family and say:
.....GO BILLS!!

The most objective interrogator in the business. He will be missed and I hope some will emulate him. God bless. A class act.

A very sad day for political junkies like me. RIP, Mr. Russert.

There's no one who does what he did on Meet the Press- Stephanopoulos is more objective than you might expect for a former Clinton staffer, but Russert was the best. We will really miss him.

Having looked back at his career, it is striking how much he benefitted from working for Senator Moynihan, arguably the most intellectual Senator of his generation. Russert, like Moynihan, was always a master of content, learning his material in depth, not settling for the typical "Cliff Notes" approach employed by so many "pundits".
Godspeed and prayers for his family on what will be one awful Father's Day.

He will especially be missed in the run-up to this historic election. It won't be the same following it without his top-notch journalism. He could often be seen attending mass at the Georgetown University Hospital Chapel.

Just got back from the Blackthorne in South Buffalo, the part of the city from which Russ hailed. Lots of drinks being raised to Buffalo's favorite son, and rightfully so. Gonna be missed. I know he had just came back from Italy, and I hope he had heard South Buffalo's own Pat Kane had won the Calder Trophy for NHL rookie of the year. That was the sort of thing he always made note of on the air.
Of all the guy's to pass on Father's Day... damn. RIP Tim. To echo Boz:
LET'S GO BILLS!!![/i][/size]

The outpouring of coverage from the media is remarkable and speaks well to the respect that he earned. It should be noted that even though the NY Times web site announced the death at 3:25 EDT, each of the TV networks held off their coverage 14 minites until NBC could be the first to do so. There are not a lot of people who would engender a network news embargo, albeit brief, but it was appropriate. When Russert looked straight into the camera after the North Carolina primary, and said "we now know who the Democratic nominee will be, and no one's going to dispute it", it was a unique moment in American politics, not because someone declared a winner, but because he did. showhype.com/video/msnbc_s_russert_we_now_know_who_the_nominee_will_be/
