Not good news - Tranghese is by far the best commissioner of the major conferences.

not good news at least based on what other message boards have said in the past about him keeping the conference together and keeping the football teams from splitting. Hopefully whoever replaces them him will do as good of a job keeping the conference together.

Well there is speculation that since Dan Snyder bought 980 that might be the end of the John Thompson Show. Big John needs that second paycheck! But seriously he'd be a bad choice: grumpy old men with no administrative experiance aren't the best candidates to run multi million dollar organizations full of high profile egos. Although ed is a champion for the betterment of grumpy old men so I can see how you support this

tranghese is not my problem, nor is he impacting the hoyas in any way. I could not disagree more. Nearly everything Georgetown is doing in terms of athletic priorities and funding steer through what Tranghese's office has directed for the Big East. The days are gone when Georgetown can put all its eggs in one basket (pun intended) and run subsistence programs in other sports. This cannot be a one horse athletic program. The Big East mandated a level of commitment across all sports which Georgetown either had to step up to, or consider calling up the Patriot League instead. It has chosen the former. And the new commissioner still has to walk past the minefield that is the uneasy balance betweem the I-A and non-IA schools. Some of these I-A schools would think nothing of kicking Georgetown to the curb for their C-USA friends. The new commissioner's leadership has a material role in keeping balance as a part of the Big East's direction.
