All this anti-Roy stuff is slowly really angering me. Are they talking about the same guy that played for Georgetown UNIVERSITY the past 4 years? Are they sure they're not watching someone from Georgetown Kentucky or somewhere else? Georgetown is a popular name.....

The most amazing thing is how universally unathletic Roy is considered. No, he's not a leaper, and no, he's not lightening fast, but he can be surprisingly quick and the herky jerky look often belies how quickly he is moving.
In other words, he's not nearly as unathletic as advertised.

Hartford Courant: "Hibbert Could Be Draft Bargain" www.courant.com/services/newspaper/printedition/sports/hc-dezbbcol0623.artjun23,0,7808073.column "It's really funny to see the different reactions to Roy right now," J.T. III said in a phone interview. "You see and hear some of the comments that are almost like coming back to school to get a degree was a bad thing for him. To me, that just goes against everything we're trying to teach young kids. Look, we know when a kid goes to college to play basketball, whether it's Georgetown, Connecticut, North Carolina, Duke or any other major Division I program, they have thoughts about playing in the NBA. We know that. So if that's what they want to do, then we, as their coaches, have a responsibility to try to help them get there. But we're also educators, and we have a responsibility to make sure that they understand the first reason they're here and what they should ultimately be trying to accomplish, which is getting your degree. It doesn't always work out that way. Circumstances play a part in a kid's decision sometimes, too, but let's not send the wrong message."

the courant seems to write an exceptionally high number of articles on the hoyas. but that was a very good article, that reporter seemed to have a good report with jtiii- he should come work in washington.

Good to see that Roy starting to get some love. But anyway, there was a solid Jeff and Tyler sighting at Rino Bar on Saturday. Talked to one girl that spoke to Jeff for ahwile having no idea who he was. Asking what he did, and making remarks about his height. Very modest kid did not talk about basketball or the fact that he was a professional. Just said that he went to Gtown. Great Kid!!!

From the Salt Lake Valley, I must say it's been great that everyone is pegging Utah to pick Roy at #23. That means lots of coverage in the paper, on TV and on radio. Almost everyone thinks he's a great player but the tone is starting to shift in that a lot of people don't think he'll fall that low. I also have to say how good it feels to have someone as well-spoken (and funny) as Roy representing Georgetown when you see him on all of these TV soundbites. What a great representative for the school. From the Salt Lake Tribune: www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_9671440The "Roy Hibbert Draft" from the Deseret News: www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700237190,00.html

Nice to know that some kids have enough poise and self esteem that they do not need to lay all their cards on the table. If I were good and fortunate enough to be a pro athlete, I don't think I would have been able to suppress it, especially in front of the ladies. By the way, I believe the word jgalt was looking for is "rapport."

Here's the unofficial list of Green Room attendees for the draft ( link): - Joe Alexander (West Virginia) - Darrell Arthur (Kansas) - DJ Augustin (Texas) - Jerryd Bayless (Arizona) - Michael Beasley (Kansas State) - Danilo Gallinari (Italy) - Eric Gordon (Indiana) - DeAndre Jordan (Texas A&M) - Brook Lopez (Stanford) - Robin Lopez (Stanford) - Kevin Love (UCLA) - OJ Mayo (USC) - Anthony Randolph (LSU) - Derrick Rose (Memphis) - Brandon Rush (Kansas) - Russell Westbrook (UCLA) Total of 16 players (I think). Roy didn't make the list.

i guess they figure the lopez twins have to do everything together. weird, since robin is destined to be the last one in there. he and deandre jordan can console each other when roy is off the board before them.

drafting beasley would seem to throw jeff under the bus. but at elast he would not be stuck in oklahoma city. Durant at the 2, Jeff 3, Beasley 4? This would seem to make sense. But I cannot understand why the Sonics insist on Durant at the 2. Seems like the wrong spot for him. Beasley and Jeff would complement each other well. Similar body-size and athleticism, though Beasley is definitely more of a leaper and Jeff is a little taller. Jeff has all the passing skills and Basketball IQ, while Beasley's got the scoring and high-flying rebounding and blocks. I could see Jeff's numbers increasing in every way playing with Beasley except in scoring, because Durant will still try to hog it. I hope this is the lineup and not Jeff on the bench. That would be a pretty poor move by the Sonics after the way he finished the year and with the ability to upgrade their PG position at this point.

The weird thing about that lineup? You have your shortest guy at the 4 and the tallest at the 2. I realize there are differences in game and bulk, but that's a bit odd.

I was just listening to Big John on sportstalk 980 and he was interviewing some no personality guy from realgm.com about the upcoming draft. Basically was saying that he hopes Roy goes #23 to Utah, because the later you go the better team and coach you are going to end up with, and being one of the top picks is just cosmetic. With the second contract you sign in the nba being the most important. He also said (couldn't quote it word for word), basically everyone who is passing on Roy is going to be kicking themselves later and he'd be there to tell them I told you so. :-) GO ROY!!!!!!

mci - JT said that he would be there to tell everyone I told you so. I thought it was very cool how he presented it - wasn't trying to make a case for why Roy should go higher, just that he has seen a few big men and knew what he was talking about. The realgm guy had the other big guys going ahead of roy in the draft and didn't seem to be one of the people who think he's a sleeper. JT made a point of saying a few times that he'd get in the "I told you so".
