Mostly fluff with nothing particularly new or revealing - just an extra quote or two from Vernon's former coach at Hargrave: Macklin and Florida are a good fit By Mike DeCourcy In two seasons with the Georgetown Hoyas, Vernon Macklin averaged 3.4 points per game. Well, that certainly did not go according to plan. He was a McDonald's All-American in high school, the 17th-ranked recruit in the class of 2006 according to Scout.com. By now, he is supposed to be a star.
Seven of the guys ranked in front of Macklin already are in the NBA, and at least three or four will arrive in about a month. Kevin Durant was the national player of the year. Sherron Collins and Darrell Arthur were the true heroes of Kansas' national championship run.
Vernon Macklin has scored in double figures three times.
So of course Florida wants him. news.yahoo.com/s/sn/20080520/sp_sn/macklinandfloridaareagoodfit

Wrote this on an earlier post today....seems more appropriate for this thread however... i apoligize in advance if I am breaking a rule by double posting.
The epitome of Macklin's play as a Hoya was the sequence at the Garden during this year's Big East Tournament. We were up a few with about 5 minutes left. Hibbert was in foul trouble so we just needed a few minutes from Vernon, who had four fouls himself. He was down low in the box while the opponent was shooting free throws. He manages to rebound the miss, but due to some inadvertant bumping - the "doe-like" legs give way and his balance is lost. He begins to fall out of bounds. At the last moment he attempts to throw the ball off of the opponent's body. He is unable to hit him from close range. The opponent ends up with the loose ball. Vernon recovers his balance in time to foul the opponent as he makes the easy layup. End result: Macklin fouls out. No time off of the clock. Opponent three point play. Hibbert no rest. Go Gators.....

I'm hoping that it works out for everyone involved -- Georgetown, Florida and Vern.

I'm hoping that it works out for everyone involved -- Georgetown, Florida and Vern. We'll never see Vernon get position, barely catch a pass with his hands of cement, then inexplicably spin to within 1 inch of the baseline, and finish it off by bouncing the ball out of bounds off his own foot. In two years, we won't even remember the guy who should have been a star senior. I'm not positive what offense Florida plans to run...or if such an offense even exists...where someone as limited in skill as Macklin would be a good fit.

I don't know about you guys, but when I think about dominant NBA big men, my mind immediately jumps to Matt Bonner and David Lee.

I think the best part is that the Matt Bonner/David Lee Florida teams were some of the most overrated, underacheiving teams in recent history.
