BJ Mullens is the new #1. I almost pity BJ -- now he can be picked apart by fans of other players.
Sims moved up slighty, Monroe down slightly (both really immaterial). Clark and Braswell basically swapped places.

Rivals finally catered to the fans who trashed Monroe all season. BJ Mullens got worked by Yancy Gates in the game I watched--but he's a good player who as SFHoya pointed out will get a beating for not being "Samardo" or "Brandon" or "Tyreke".

I understand why it happened, but I really liked the idea of having the #1 player overall (which Monroe might still be according to the RSCII combined rankings). Hopefully Monroe uses this as motivation to come into Georgetown and dominate every game like he dominated in the LA State tournament.

Greg doesn't pay that much attention to the rankings.

I don't care about rankings either--but Demar DeRozoan has no business being ranked in the top 5--let alone the top 50. He's a tremendous athlete who has no concept of how to play basketball. He's a selfish ball hog who isn't a great shooter, and cherry picks for highlight dunks. He's best friends with Lil Romeo though--so that might explain it.

People here in LA think he has unbelievable upside and expect USC to finish among the top 2 or 3 in the pac 10.

OJ Mayo is a better basketball player than DeRozan is, from what I can see. For one, OJ can shoot. For two, OJ passed the ball quite well. Now maybe DeRozan has that in his arsenal, but it hasn't shown up.

OJ got a lot of heat before his freshman year - lots of similar criticism about being selfish, etc. He didn't wipe out that criticism altogether, but he surprised people with his play at USC. Not saying anything about DeRozan, because I know very little about him.

Glad to see clark get respect, but why did braswell drop so much? I thought he was doing well at harve de Grace? Also i can see Monroe falling out of #1 but all the way to 8th? When will scout come out with new rankings? aren't they thought more highly of then rivals rankings?

When you're talking about 17-18 year-old kids and projecting their impact on a level on which none of them have ever played, a fall from #1 to #8 is meaningless. If ranking services weren't so affected by each other, I'm sure that you would see great differences among all of them and Greg would likely be ranked anywhere from 1 to 25, and the discrepancy would be meaningless.

Didnt rivals OWN article say that monroe worked over BJ in practice before the Jordan Classic? I agree that mullens is good, but i would like some more justification for their rankings. either way greg is still the player he was when he was called no. 1, so it wont matter

No surprise to see Monroe fall...his national TV performance against Aminu...and his underwhelming all star performances...it was obvious he was going to fall in the final rankings. Although I'm not sure how Mullens ended up #1. He is a big time athlete for someone of his size but it's not like he dominated anything to get a #1 ranking. I honestly would have put Holiday in that slot.

rankings don't matter. I think the top 10 could all be 1 through 10. Outside of the top 10 the rankings REALLY don't matter. Watch and see how a two-star recruit (like Jon Wallace) will impact a program more than a 4 or 5 star recruit (see, e.g., Vernon Macklin). Maybe we will be fortunate enough to have a 2 star (Wattad) develop into a Wallace, and have the "8th" ranked player in the country prove the doubters wrong. Rankings only help coaches get an idea of who to look at, but it does not provide them with the guidebook on all recruits.
