I'm not sure if this is new to the site, or it's not and I'm just now noticing it, but here's the official 2008 football schedule according to guhoyas.com:

On paper that has to be the toughest schedule that the Hoyas have faced since going to I-AA. Richmond will be a beast, Howard will be very big and very talented, the two Ivys are among the best that league has to offer and the Patriot League has not been very kind to Georgetown football. I guess that leaves Marist. Well, the Hoyas were fortunate to beat Marist in 2006 with a future NFL player and two future Arena League players. Then we all know what happened last year. I sure hope this year's freshman class is special.

it will be interesting...
I've haven't done my homework of late, but it will be very interesting if the big three continue to be worked by the HC's and Fordham's of the PL. With Jordan Scott leaving colgate (he, arguable, beat us by himself for 4 years), it will be interesting to how they replace him. same with lehigh who has to replace their running and gunning qb... i'd say there is a similar qb concern at lafayette, but being honest - when you have the hogs upfront that they continue to field, i doubt there is alot of pressure on that qb - besides him not messing up the handoffs.
Howard and Richmond as pointed out, will be tough. Howard I believe is beatable. We do well against them in 7on7, but that was with an experienced qb and seasoned wr's. it will be interesting to see the progression of the many qb's we are bringing in this coming fall.
as always i'm optimisitc. i see a much improved team and some sophomores becoming men as jrs.... look for charlie to hurt some ppl as we return to the offense (similar at least) he thrived in as a freshman.

I really don't like being too negative. After all, I am always "Hopeful" on this Board. But let me address two points. First, we have one more year of Jordan Scott to deal with. Because he was so good as a freshman, it just seems like four years. As for playing Howard closely in 7 on 7, I remember reading that the Hoyas BEAT Maryland last summer in 7 on 7. It's fun, but without live line play the ever present Georgetown lack of size on both sides of the line has no impact. If the Hoyas had played the Terps last season, the game would have been frightening. Sorry...I'm still (as promised) "Hopeful".

I stand corrected on Jordan Scott. was hoping last year was it.
though we may have seen the last of him as he and another player were arrested in the off season for an off campus incident. anyone have new news on that?

I'm in the team's corner no matter what, but the kind of stupidly blind optimism that allowed some on this board to proudly boast about the 7-on-7 "win" against Maryland last year is exactly the kind of thinking that prevents us from making the small strides that are necessary for us to build a solid 1-AA non-scholarship team. We're not close to Maryland. We likely never will be. Ever. In a similar vane, I haven't seen Howard play in many years, but let's be real: we're going to likely lose, and probably badly. And that's OK (for now) because they're a step-up on the schedule (a full scholarship 1-AA team that recruits some of the best student-athletes who want to attend a historically black institution), and we're not there yet. Let's get some wins where we can this season, continue seasoning our young guys, and build toward a team that can be a respectable, competitive team in a few years.

Unless the program takes a big leap forward starting with this season, I'm worried that the series with Howard will end before the Hoyas see any benefit from it.

Jeez, do you think that's a realistic possibility, showcase?
Maybe we can be like the Cleveland Indians in the movie Major League and turn-it-around when faced with the risk of total destruction.

I haven't seen the movie but I'm going to go ahead and say that any cardboard of Muir is not that intimidating.
On a serious note, the rising juniors will have played a significant amount of time in the previous years. And miracles do happen. Remember Homecoming in 2005? We came back and scored three consecutive touchdowns (or maybe more) to win it.

Not to hijack the thread, but any word on QB for this season? The thought of "rising juniors" made me realize we have a gazillion frosh QBs who are going to be pushing the upperclassmen.

The fresmen may have already pushed past the upperclassmen.
At lease three recruits were quoted as saying they understood the position to be wide open in 2008, i.e., no heir apparent to Bassuener. "There is a very good chance one of us will start," said Scott Darby, "because (last year's) starter graduated and they moved two others to receiver."
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Tucker Stafford or a John Brady starting against Howard, but then again, there are four other freshman QB's with the same idea.

HU did have Antoine Bethea three years back. I think this is a great series and I can only hope it is a long term series which I think will greatly benefit both teams.
