It's been a good couple of weeks for Georgetown's most successful Varsity program.
First, the #4 ranked Georgetown Sailing Team finished an strong second place in the conference Team Racing Championship last week, April 6th-7th. Finishing the event with an impressive mark of 13-4, the Hoyas were right on the tail of #1 ranked St. Mary's, even handing the Seahawks, who have been by far the best team race team to this point in the season, one of their two losses for the event. This victory came in the Hoyas' last race, and it will definitely build momentum going into the National Championships in June, when the Hoyas will be trying to win the event for the second time in three years.
Also last weekend, the #5 GUST women traveled up to Boston for the President's Trophy. Led by seniors Blaire Herron (an All-American) and Leigh Fogwell, who won the A-Division, the team finished up the regatta in second place of 18 teams, five points behind then #2 Yale.

After these solid second place finishes, the Hoyas decided to throw off the bridesmaid tag this weekend, crushing the competition for the America Trophy, the conference fleet racing championship. Despite competing against the likes of #1 St. Mary's, #10 Hobart William Smith, and #15 Navy, the Hoyas won the event by 21 points in 14 races, with the aforementioned St. Mary's second this time around. Senior All-American Chris Behm, with junior All-American Carly Chamberlain and sophomore Marco Teixidor splitting crew duties, sailed away from the A-Division, winning by 18 points.
To put it in basketball terms, Georgetown was Hibbert and the rest of the conference was Harangody. That's right--no chance.
Next stop for the coed team is the National Championship Semi-Finals, where they will be competing for a spot at the Finals to see if Georgetowns' biggest trophy case needs to be enlarged yet again. Also, stay tuned to follow the women as they compete soon for their Conference Champioship.
Way to go GUST, and how 'bout a little love for the Hoya sailors!
