C'mon people! Keep it going! I think $2000 is a fair start-up goal.

It's pretty sad that at $35/person we're only to $535 -- what's that, sixteen people?
The $35 is FREE. All you have to do is sign up.
I was also going to put in for my $.01/post but for some reason the deposit from my bank account won't clear.

Did it take anyone else 11 days to get a confirmation that the money had transfered? That might be because it took a long time to get my account approved, thanks to the warning (or whatever it was called) I had to put on my credit because Gtown lost all my personal info. Anyway, we're now at $702.99. Thanks to SFHoya99 for being the first person who's been able to follow through with a penny a post donation! (Not knocking those who haven't done it yet--I know how many issues there can be signing up for this thing). If you haven't signed up yet, please send me a PM with your email! Even if you don't want to donate your own money, you can get $35 for the HHC by just signing up!

The Donations keep rolling in. We've now raised $772.54, and received our second donation based on posts, though I'm not sure who it's from (board name wise). Whoever it was, thanks!!!

Just out of curiosity.. but donated money is usually spent on what? This is one of those questions that 100% should be available on the website. I'd bet there's more a few people who do not donate because they don't understand where the money is going.

I'd bet there's more a few people who do not donate because they don't understand where the money is going. If that's the case, they should actually visit the Hoop Club website: guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/hoops-club.html"The Hoya Hoop Club is an organization of loyal alumni, parents, friends, former players and managers dedicated to helping Georgetown Basketball reach its goals. We provide funds for scholarships, team travel, equipment, cheerleader & band support, and we organize special events for our members. "

Ah, yes, the hardest to navigate website in time (and yes, I know it's being worked on).
But yes, that's on there -- although as a member, I was hoping for a more comprehensive list. I know several people who don't donate b/c this is not publicized well. I would suggest a "What the Hoop Club Does" page on the site. Just a thought.

The items listed probably account for 95% of the money spent in any given year. As for a "What the Hoop Club Does" page - the info is there, but on the "Mission Statement" page. That should be re-labeled. If people think it's not publicized well, they're right. If they say that information isn't available, they're wrong. Or they don't care enough to look.

And that's where we get to the idea that we're either marketing the Hoops Program and trying to actively increase donations, or whether people should be grateful for the right to give. I know which one gets the staff more cash.

Not sure how much more comprehensive you can be. The items listed probably account for 95% of the money spent in any given year. I don't think it's out of line to suggest you could be a LOT more comprehensive. What did the budget look like for 2007-08 season? What portion of funds went to scholarships and what portion went to sending another care package of bumperstickers to the west coast? I can understand why people not want this info shared, but to suggest the statement above is a comprehensive recording of the Hoya Hoop Club is quite the abuse of the word comprehensive. The list at the top is a generic statement that does technically cover what the hoop club spent money on, but doesn't exactly tell people where their donations went. Highlight the big ticket items from the previous year. Talk up a list of priorities if the club had another $500, $1000, $10,000 or $100,000 in donations. In a word: Sell!

How specific do people want this to be? Fundamentally, I see your point, but the reality is that you're then basically asking for the athletic department to make an itemized basketball budget public. Hoop Club money goes to the athletic department, and is allocated from there. Not sure if that's something the athletic department (or any department) wants to do. The reality is this: Hoop Club donations were near $2 million this year. The basketball budget was much larger than $2 million. The money from the Hoop Club made up a percentage of that budget. It's not like the Athletic Department says "We'll pay for the charter bus to the Pitt game, but the Hoop Club will pay for the team's lunches that day." It all essentially ends up in one pot, and gets spent on a variety of items. Up until a few years ago Hoop Club donations could actually be restricted, so that if I contributed $100 and said "Spend this on Gatorade", it had to be spent on Gatorade. That's not the way it works anymore, mostly because it's an administrative pain in the ass.
