Sorry, I just have to say this. Arizona State is not making this tournament field and everyone everywhere will be shocked and dismayed.
The reasons they were in on ESPN included "they played a better than average OOC schedule." It ranked 304! I know they pulled off the incredibly difficult task that is beating the best team in the A-10 on your home turf after a flight across time zones but that's it.
If they want to be in, don't go 5-10 the second half of the year. That would help. RPI 83? 6-8 on the road? Say goodnight Herb.
ESPN is really overplaying the Pac 10's hand. Great conference but if they only ended up with the top 4 in + either Arizona or Oregon I wouldn't be shocked at all.

I thought the conversation that the Gameday crew had with Lunardi was perfect. It just reveals that all Lunardi does is crunch numbers and figure trends. That's all well and good, but its also why he has no business talking about basketball on TV, and it also why this whole bracket predicting thing is a joke. Bilas and Davis just made him look so ridiculous when talking about which teams are actually "good."

sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bubblewatch?id=79Bubble Watch has a pretty good analysis. They say there are 5 at-large bids up for grabs, with Arizona almost certain to get one of them. Arizona State gets left out by their RPI, and Dayton loses out to UMass because of head-to-head and conference record. Right now they have UMass, Oregon, Illinois State, and Villanova as the last 4 teams in.

I hope that's right about Nova and I agree about ASU. We can belittle the RPI, but I just can't see a team at 81 getting in. It's too bad they got shafted on that foul call against USC, but if you want to be a 500 team in your conference and get in, you had better play a decent OOC schedule, and ASU didn't.

the fact that they did sweep arizona, had less losses than them and a higher in conference schedule does give basis to a solid arguemtn. but you are correct, that rpi is the ultimate clincher

Correction: ASU IS in .... trouble that is, when the mighty Gators come-a-callin' to secure a spot in the Final 4!
