For those of you in the New York area (or who can get wfan.com), the legendary Mike & the Mad Dog will be doing play-by-play for the afternoon session on Thursday on WFAN. If listening to Rich is one type of surreal, this could be the opposite extreme. I'd put the odds at about 60% that they get sidetracked into a "who should be the Mets' 5th starter?" debate at some point. That said, this should be either highly entertaining or a complete trainwreck. Or both. And they really ought to take calls at halftime.

They're probably just doing it to be in the gym for the BET instead of on the air from Secaucus. Too much personality for a radio broadcast IMO. They'd be better off pairing Eagle with Mad Dog for one game and finding another guy to pair with Mike in the other game, like Steve Somers (sp?).
Mad Dog did a Mets game last year or the year before, and I remember he had a decent call but many of his high spots came off as too planned. The good radio broadcasters, like Rich, have something that is more organic and are able to get into the flow of the game more than your average studio guy watching games from afar and armchair quarterbacking.

I like their show (a lot of the time), but I think "complete trainwreck" sounds about right.
