Memorandum
To: National Sports Media From: SPH RE: Big East Regular Season Results
Gentlemen and Erin Andrews:
Thank you for being there for so many Georgetown games this year. I appreciate your balance in covering the Hoyas. I agree that we are the most over-rated team to ever win the toughest conference in America. I also agree that we really won all 15 regular season Big East games because of sloppy officiating. Clearly Dajuan Summers committed an offensive foul when nailing his game winning three pointer. Conversely, I agree that Roy Hibbert was never fouled during the entire Big East season. I also feel that hanging on, bumping, and grabbing the jerseys of cutters should never be called as a foul. Thank you for enlightening me on how the game should be played. Thank you for not pumping up the Georgetown program only to turn on it in January and call us over-rated - you have shown fairness and balance through out the season. I can only hope that our undeserved win over the extremely hot Louisville Cardinals will bring us up to a 5 seed. I apologize for winning so many close games. I agree that it has nothing to do with the talent and poise of our players and everything to do with the decisions of a group of 40-60 year old men who were also on the court. As you can tell from the game Mike Kitts called today - we get all the breaks.
Best of luck in hyping your Duke vs. North Carolina game.

ESPN is unbelievable! I've been watching ESPN News for the last hour to see the highlights of the game. They have shown the highlights of every other game -- including Stanford/SC -- which followed G-town/L-ville on CBS.
Why such disrespect for the Hoyas -- I will never know?

I don't think Gtown this year has been ignored or disrespected, to the contrary I think for a while we got too much press...but coverage of today's game has been oddly subdued, pre and post. It got about as much press on ESPN as if it were the MAAC season title on the line.

Seth Davis is just the tip of the iceberg...no respect, but I like it better that way, I'll take no respect all the way to San ANTONNN!!

The fact is, we just won a couple of huge games and the BE season title. I don't think we make ourselves look good by whining right now. Let the losers whine. St P's post is still funny, though.

Switching to CBS...does it surprise anyone that CBS' main team the last two weekends did games involving a ranked team against a non-ranked team instead of the Gtown games in which TWO ranked teams were set to face off (the latter game being for the BE title)?

Sometimes it takes a little while for the national media to catch up to the narrative, especially if its changing. Really until 7 days ago we had always been around all season, dangling somewhere between the no. 5 and no. 13 rankings, with nothing really flash to show for ourselves. The season, as far as the national media was concerned, had no signature moments. Or if it did, they were moments of controversy: the PEJr block, the foul on Wallace, etc.
This dovetails with the fact that many of us, myself included, had no idea where this season was going until last Saturday. I actually turned to Maine Hoya in the suite at the Bradley Center last week when we were down 11 points and--in an effort to preemptively console myself about what I was certain was our impending defeat--told him that as bad as we felt right then, for all we knew we could beat Louisville the next week, be conference champs, and look back laughing at how silly it was to be down just then. Well, it turns out I was wrong to give up on the MU game and right about 'Ville. 49 minutes of basketball later I'm on cloud nine and feel like the sky is the absolute limit for this team--that especially with the right matchups and cutting a few turnovers, we can beat anybody.
My point is, if today--the last few hours really--is the first time I've been 100% confident about where this team fits into the national picture, its probably fair to excuse the national media for being a little slow to catch up. A lot of energy was expended by the Jay Bilases of the world early in the year talking about how great we were while he watched us lose to Memphis and then Pitt on national TV (and then 'Ville and then Syracuse). Meanwhile, Louisville has been winning for six weeks, so the momentum has building for everybody to talk about how great they are.
I'm not going to get worked up about it. Keep winning and we'll earn our share of praise. On a day like today, there are too many things going on for Seth Davis et al. to issue us a collective apology. They can do that on April 7.

I've never cared less about the national bball media than I do right now.
What I do care about is: 4 amazing seniors, clutch underclassmen, and a coach who have brought this program BACK A 25-4 record UNDEFEATED AT HOME for the first time since 95-96 BACK TO BACK BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS A HUGE and RAUCOUS home crowd advantage for a school with only 6500 undergrads in a 20000 seat arena Days like today!
GO HOYAS!!!!!!!! THE BEAST OF THE BIG EAST!!!!!!!!!

Money plays in. if ESPN has the duke/UNC game, which one do you think they will pay attention to and hype? Just tough luck with a noon start.

Who are you referencing? And what makes you resort to such pettiness as calling someone an idiot instead of making a substantive post that could further create discussion? This is a discussion board, not a name-calling board. Please use it accordingly.

why does anyone even care? the coaches, team, and fans know how good we are. that's all that matters. i don't need some jackass on espn or cbs suddenly thinking we're a good team because we beat louisville. screw them. let them think we're lucky. let them think we can't beat duke or unc. syracuse fans cry about not getting respect, we don't.
