This has now become the evil twin of the Syracuse pre-game discussion thread. Given how many times the loss to the St. Johns walkon squad has been invoked, that makes me very very nervous about tonight's game.

Wow, reading through all ten [Edit: now 11!] pages in a row was like getting a cactus enema followed by a shot of tequila for the pain.
Is it just me, or does this thread read like the scene lineup from Clerks? (Source: wikipedia) 1. Dante 2. Vilification - An act of making cruel and insulting statements about a person 3. Jay and Silent Bob 4. Randal 5. Syntax - The arrangement of something in a methodical manner 6. Vagary - An erratic or peculiar modification, act or thought 7. Purgation - An act of getting rid of something disagreeable, flawed or unsatisfactory 8. Malaise - An all-around feeling of illness or bad health without any exact cause 9. Harbinger - A person or thing that predicts the future 10. Perspicacity - The intensity of judgment or observation 11. Paradigm - A typical example of something 12. Whimsy - A thought that has no apparent explanation to exist 13. Quandary - A condition of doubt or uncertainty as to what to do in a certain situation 14. Lamentation - An act or expression of sadness or distress 15. Juxtaposition - An act of comparing two things, especially in a way that suggests connection between them or to distinguish them 16. Catharsis - An event or sensation of spiritual cleansing brought on by a powerful emotional experience 17. Denouement - The part of the ending in which all questions are answered and everything is cleared up

NYU's sports teams are called the Violets. However, their mascot is a bobcat. Violet was also the name of Tori Spelling's character on Saved by the Bell. But they were the Bayside Tigers, not the Bobcats. I would prefer if NYU's mascot was Tori Spelling. Much more intimidating I'm not sure what any of this means. But I like it. Could hoyaeighties/foeva have gotten is new tagline ("foevaaaaaaaaa") from Saved By The Bell? Remember this classic song: "Freinnnnnnnnnnnnnnds foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... until the end of time!!!" EDIT: Did I hear correctly that Screetch is in an amateur porno? Are you talking about this song?

Don't kids these days have some kind of "rate my professor" website? I'd love to see what the kids at NYU think of Esherick's teaching skills.
And as far as the Esh era goes, I still feel its effects. After the now-few Hoya losses, I don't break things in my house, yell at my wife, or kick my dog. The Esh era lets me appreciate these good times, because I now know it isn't a birthright that the Hoyas will kick ass.
But asking us to apologize him to him? Naw. That would be like being grateful to somebody who once kicked you in the nuts for the fact that your nuts don't currently hurt.

I heard the last 30 seconds of Esh's lectures are a complete debacle Expecting a well taught class day in and day out is COMPLETELY unreasonable. I will be a teacher here for 30 YEARS if I want to.

True story--this past Halloween (or maybe it was some random Hoya Blue costume party in the fall) I decided to dress up as Esherick. Put on a generic navy suit, bought a 5 dollar tie from that vendor next to the CPK in Pentagon City, got a paste-on mustache from a party store, and I'm good to go.
In case you doubted my assertion that nobody on campus remembers Esherick, I had to explain my costume about 1,000,000 times to undergrads AND finally put on a nametag.
At some point earlier in the fall, a mutual friend had dropped off a whole slew of random hats at the friend's Village A apartment where this party was being held. Later in the night I'm strolling through the apt and pick out an old-school Prussian Army helmet with the little pointy thing on the end and proceed to go hang out on the patio wearing it.
Lots of younger undergrads who nobody recognizes are rolling up to the door, which I can see from the railing I'm sitting on at the end of the patio. I'm engaged in a re-enactment of some of Esh's greatest coaching signals (The Fist, The Double Fist, and The "O-Shaped Thing") for some friends when one young'n yells out: "HEY! Who are you supposed to be?"
"Eh, you wouldn't get it," I dismissively reply.
"No seriously, who the hell are you supposed to be."
"It's before your time kid," I say back as he walks away with a disgusted look on his face that just screams moral outrage.
And only then does it hit me:
Holy *@! He thinks I'm dressed up as Hitler.

Well, I was pleased to read the professor's letter, on two counts. First, I'm happy to read that Esh is teaching at NYU. Good for him. Second, the comparison of Esh to Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick made me laugh so hard I almost busted a gut. It was suggested on another thread that Esh would be a good candidate for the Indiana job. He now has the perfect argument. Can there be any question that Esh would lead Indiana to a national championship?

I'm shocked that a Professor of Sports Management has such a bad radar for what the landscape would be for Craig Esherick's coaching prospects.
