So the Hoyas have a full week off between the Marquette and Louisville games, which means that - assuming we get a first round BET bye (seems like a safe assumption) - the team will play only one game in 12 days leading up to the postseason.
Not sure if this is a good thing or not, especially since since the 1st half of the Cuse game we've been playing better and better ball.
In any case, I think we'll need to play a very solid game against Marquette, win or lose, since a bad performance will fester for a week leading up to what will certainly be our biggest regular season game of the year. And the long breaks between games might give us a chance to rest and reload - if it doesn't knock out any momentum we've built up.
Thoughts?

Really, I don't mind that break, we will still have the momentum and coach will have plenty of time to focus on a few of our general weaknesses as a team instead of preparing solely for the next opponent.

I think the time will only help the Hoyas. As for the remaining games... we really shoud beat St. John's without much of a fight; I think we match up very well against Marquette and its a game we will be up for given the problems we've had on the road; the true test is going to be Louisville. A little time to lick our wounds and get amped for the game is a good thing.

Marquette is on the road. To me, that makes it harder than the Louisville game. The Ville is better, but the Bradley Center is a really tough place to play.

Based on how we've been playing since halftime on 2/16, I like our chances of closing out the season 3-0. Unless Pitt beats the Ville tonight, our game on 3/8 will decide the BE reg season. Bradley Ctr is notoriously a tough place to play, but I like how we match up this year.
Ah, late Feburary.

The Hoyas have to play Marquette on the road. We know the troubles they have had going to another gym in the BE to play a quality opponent. Add in the travel back from Milwaukee. Assuming the Hoyas get a bye in the first round of the BET, they still play 3 games in 3 days. Putting this all together, the rest between Marquette and Louisville could be critical for both the Louisville game and the BET. Plus, by already playing more BE games, the others are chasing the Hoyas. More pressure on them. Last, give Jon's wrist a chance to heal up.

Actually no, even if the Cards lose today 3/8 could decide the regular season EVEN IF we beat St John's and MU. If we lose to a four loss Louisville team that would leave us tied with them in the win-loss column and since they would have two wins over us they would win the conference

VCjack, I thought that only decided the seed. Don't we do co-champs if the records are the same? Not that I want to be co-champs.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure BE reg season is determined by W-L alone, but tiebreaker determines seeding.
Either way, I agree with SF: let's kill the Cards at home and win this thing outright. Is it wrong to hope that ND loses to Cuse today?

First: Never root for Syracuse. I thought about it when they almost beat Connecticut, as it would knock Conn out of the race. But. Never.
Second: Assuming Marquette wins next week, as I note Kenpom has it, and we beat Louisville for their only loss in the last four games, then who gets the #1 seat between GU and UL? Both would be 14-4 in conference, with both beating the other at home. How does the BE determine seating in that case?

The schedule sets up great. A cupcake followed by a marquee road win which is just what we need. Then finish off the season with the seniors game to win the BE title outright. The downside is that game is on the tail end of springbreak so the student turnout will be tested.
We have had great crowds this year and if I was guessing, I would say we are averaging 3K more then last year. I am sure someone will provide official stats on this.

Patrick, the tiebreaker is record against the next best team in conference.
If it is Notre Dame (which UL plays next), then we've got a win and UL has yet to play. If it is UConn, then we win (we beat them, UConn lost). If Marquette sneaks ahead of UConn, then Louisville is 2-0.
We get a nice advantage either way the ND-Louisville game goes, but really we want the Ville to win. The big key in tiebreakers is Notre Dame staying ahead of Marquette.

Comments on Marquette are valid but they should have a real problem with a big front line. I would not be surprised if Vernon and Roy see allot of time together. This game could be very ugly, but the more ugly it gets the better chance we have to win. I will be at the game and will give post game impressions.

If it wasnt for the performances against L'vile, Marquette would be right in the mix for the title. They are a very good team. Pomeroy has them in the top 10. The one thing about them, though, is that much like our game against them last year, and lot of games this year, when teams wear them down, they really wear them down. I think they've been blown out 4-5 times this year.
