Let's be honest...we are lucky. This team has the potential to be a final four team, but thus far have not played like it, not even close. We were lucky against UCONN, Cuse, WVU, and Nova. We did not deserve to win any of those games, and in my opinion the Almighty must be a Georgetown fan. We should be 6-6 in the Big East. How did we allow Nova to shoot less than 25% and stay in the game? We looked pathetic, and were bailed out by a bogus call. It's hard to complain about the record and the national ranking, but anyone who follows the hoyas or knows anything about college basketball must agree that we are not playing like a top 10 team...not even a top twenty team. The team needs to regroup, or we can look forward to an early bounce in the tourney.

I'm confused. You seem to be confusing "luck" with "pulling out a close one". How is it any different for me to say that all those teams were lucky to keep it that close that long. How is not just "unlucky" that in these past few games Jon and Austin have been shooting poorly? How is it not just unlucky that we can't get Roy the ball more.
Lic said it best in a different threat. "Luck favors the prepared mind". Sure we haven't been playing great ball as of late, but to call all those wins just luck just doesn't make sense.

How are we lucky to win all those games. Against UConn, we hit the big shots. Austin, Jesse and Roy hit the shots. Heck, UConn didn't even get the ball past half court when they had their chance. That was a close game but we deserved to win that one. Syracuse - that team lacks depth. Johnny Flynn got tired and we took the game. They were in control, no doubt, but you have to learn to finish. West Virginia - ok, that was a 50/50 call. We got the better of that one. Easily could have gone either way. Villanova - If we don't get that call it still goes to overtime. We're the home team and the better team so we're the favorite in OT.

One game is luck. But 4 or 5 games can't be so easily dismissed. In each of those games, you also neglect to point out that we were the superior team and for stretches, for instance when we took a 12 point lead on Nova, we proved it big time on the court. You could also say that it is luck that we let those teams stay in the game or get back into it. But again, 4 or 5 of these games doesn't equate to luck either. We haven't developed the killer instinct or how to stay consistent through a full game. Because of this we let teams that are slightly inferior to us, but have a lot of moxie and are very competitive stay in the games. At the end, though, our experience in close games and our talent has won out. Has luck been involved? Sure. But I agree with lic's comment about luck favoring the prepared mind completely in this case.

We need some KenPom analysis of the luck factor.
I think he has done calculations like this before.

Lucky is what we'll be if our NCAA tourney competition plays like the level of our BE competition, which is to say, inconsistently

20-3/ 10-2..... after what we been thru in the not so distant past regroup is a strong word my mayne. But we do need to play better. But don't also discount tis year we are the hunted. Defending champs, other teams circle us on their schedule, it comes with the territory. In the words of Kanye...it will make us stronger. werd to bernie streeters arbys.

Thanks, TBird. We're only the 48th luckiest team? That's about the 85%ile. I thought we'd be luckier than that.

We were lucky last night. The other three wins were the result of making big plays down the stretch. Clearly we were in a position to lose all of those games, but good play made the difference, not luck.

We are not lucky. We should have won those games by far more than we did, with the possible exception of UConn who just played really well that day/is a really good team. I don't call letting a team up off the mat before finally beating them lucky. We just lack a killer instinct this year.
