Hess, I expect this from. But this was Cahill's 2nd clunker with us this year (I think U-Conn was the other one), not sure what happened to him other than maybe more ACC games on his schedule. I don't notice Donato much - probably because he usually hangs out with Hess in the ACC. Buckeye70 is right in the other thread - get this nonsense out of the Big East.

We got bailed out. Calling a bump with .1 seconds left 70 feet from our basket is a joke. For the first time in 25 years, I am ashamed to say I am a Hoya fan...both because of how we won the game and how we played. I think you should reconsider about what makes you ashamed. The team played poorly. We got a gift at the end -- one call of many in the game. But there's nothing to be ashamed about.

This is too good to embargo any longer: we're now 10-0 combined this season in games officiated by Cahill, Donato, or Hess.* ;D Cahill's notable moment with us this year was that he called the goaltending violation that allowed Patrick Ewing's basket to count at the end of the GU-UConn game. He has always to me had a reputation of being a guy who wants to make the big call at the end of a game, and he does a little theatrical nonsense and really sells the call. He also calls a ton of offensive fouls (I call him "Charging Foul Cahill") and he delivered again tonight on a few occasions for some elbow work by post players. (*It skews the stats somewhat that we're 20-3, so only a max of nine slots are available for officials to have worked our losses, and three of those belong to Mike Kitts. The truth--it's just dumb luck who works wins/losses.)

You know, no one should be shocked when the 48th foul called in a game is "questionable." The first 47 should have tipped you off that something isn't right.

I remember that the answer to the trivia was NUMBER C: Othella Harrington. Not exactly - it was "NUMBER C: Eric Floyd"

QUESTION: Is there any precedent for that last foul call tonight? A ticky-tack call 70 feet from the hoop as time expires deciding the game? Anyone think of another game that ended like that?

Why did Stokes put himself in a position where a foul could even POSSIBLY be called? The game has been called tight at times, there is 1 second left on the clock and you feel it necessary to try to pick up a charge 70 feet from the basket? ? From one angle it looks like a foul--from the others it really doesn't--but you've got to be kidding me that you put yourself in a position where your actions look like a foul from ANY angle. I guess I don't have a lot of sympathy for a Nova team that got a lot of calls (including a Reynolds lean in after two earlier attempts failed) when one goes against them.

The one that gets me is when Wallace hits that absolute dagger to put us up 4. TEN SECONDS into the ensuing possession, Summers gets called for fouling Cunningham 18 feet from the basket. If we make them work for a shot there and get a stop (which we did all second half), this game is over. Instead ther's still almost two minutes left and it's a two-point game.

Of the dozens of games I've been to in the last 10 years at the Booth, this game featured the most anti-ref booing I've heard. Most of us were just beyond disgust with them. It's one thing if they're going to call the game both ways, but I can easily say that was the biggest pile of dung I have witnessed at a BE game from the zebras.
Now, the officials didn't make us make bonehead plays or jack up crap shots, but still. They're there to facilitate the game, not play it like a video game.

It was a terrible job by the refs. The game was getting a little chippy in the first half (Wallace's accidental elbow to Reynolds, Ewing's takedown of I believe Stokes but can't remember for sure) but the refs really started calling every single hand check which took the game away from the players.
By the way, Wallace's foul should not have been called "displacement" or not. And the Reynolds play was a proper no call because Reynolds pushed off just as much as any Hoya bumped him.

I seem to remember a certain senior getting KILLED on this board after the game at Notre Dame in 2006 for putting himself in a position where a bad foul call could be made. Why should Stokes get the benefit of the doubt if Brandon Bowman didn't?

Wallace's accidental elbow to Reynolds Reynolds looked like a European footballer on that play... writhing in pain on the floor until he heard the foul called then making a miraculous recovery in time to keep playing. He must have the heart of a warrior!

Apropos of the comment that all anyone will remember is the final call, Jim Rome this morning on his radio show called the final foul the worst jam job in the history of college basketball officiating. While Rome is prone to hyperbole, his point is that it is bizarre to call a minor touch foul 70 feet from the basket with less than a second remaining. What this totally ignores, and everyone will ignore, is that the refs called the entire game in this ridiculous fashion.
