we should have never let them back in this game -- what were we doing in the last 7-8 minutes?

We were throwing the ball away, and the regs blew the whistle every single time ANYONE on the floor (GU or 'Nova) even thought about playing defense.

24 fouls in the second half. This game was called like a 6th grade CYO girls game, not Big East basketball. A disgrace.

This was the worst. How many hand checks, ticky-tacks, and nonsense calls were there?
51 FTs, 48 Fouls.
As for the last play, Reynolds so clearly pushed off it was a disgrace it WASN'T called then Wallace so clearly doesn't get fouled it's a disgrace it WAS.
The worst officiating of the year by far.

When I saw Hess, Cahill, and Donato jog out of a tunnel, I cursed to the high heavens that I hadn't bet my entire fortune on the under. This was a travesty of officiating, and after coming home and watching a replay of the final play, I'm not even really that happy about the W any more. Not like that. I paid 30 bucks to watch three veteran officials who should know better take a giant dump on a Big East basketball game.

We got bailed out. Calling a bump with .1 seconds left 70 feet from our basket is a joke. For the first time in 25 years, I am ashamed to say I am a Hoya fan...both because of how we won the game and how we played.
I thought JT3 actually coached poorly. He doesn't know how to put a game away and keep his foor on the opponents throat when he sees blood. Ex. Hoyas start going to Roy, our offense starts flowing, we get their two big men in foul trouble, we go up by 12...then what? He pulls Roy for 6 minutes and puts him back in when its a two possession game. Terrible.
Moreover... he needed to insist that we go to Roy on every single possession. Rivers never once looked into Roy the entire game... he should have yanked him. I am just so damn frustrating.
Thanks for the vent... I needed that.

Not sure if I am ashamed, but agree with the coaching sentiment. Our press "break" continues to mystify. Why do we pull up 20 feet before the trap? Dribble close to it and then find the free man, not pass behind the trap. And not to risk clutter, but how do we not find Roy when we are up 12? How are there not cuts into the lane to screen his defender off? WHY ARE WE SO AFRAID OF DRIBBLING THE BASKETBALL??? And this was the worst officiated game I have seen in years. An absolute joke. They had to make the call on Jon given all the other garbage they had called.

"Ashamed"? That's just stupid. Ashamed to be a fan of the refs, maybe, but how is it our fault that we got a stupid call in a game drenched with stupid calls? And no, we didn't play well, but we've won 20 games already so I would hardly act like we're the bottom of the RPI or something.
I've been reading threads since the L'ville game and have no problem with people who are constructively critical of our play, but the absurd wailing and gnashing of teeth and asinine rhetoric is just wasting pixels and Editeding off fans who are even remotely rational.
"Ashamed." Gimme a break!

Yeah, really, is 'ashamed' the word you want to be using here? Freakin' bizarre.

With about 6 minutes left in the game, I had to stop yelling at the refs because there was literally nothing else I could say. That was abysmal officiating on both ends of the floor- every time anyone on either team touched another player, it was called. The NCAA should be reviewing this game- it was a disgrace to college basketball.

It's a separate issue from the team's performance--that matter I'll be recapping in due time. But nobody's ever going to remember a darn thing about this game days from now b/c of how it ended. That's really too bad.

I don't think we have anything to be ashamed of - we weren't asking the refs to be so abysmally bad. If the situations were reversed Nova wouldn't have anything to be ashamed of either.
The refs should be ashamed of their performance, and the Big East should be ashamed that they pay those clowns. But the teams were just the victims of that horrendous excuse for officiating.
If you want to be ashamed because we blew a 12 point second half lead, then you may have a point.

Wow, I just saw the replay of the last few seconds of the game, and that officiating was just terrible. Summers was hacked with 4 seconds left. That's when the whistle should have blown.
Nova fans have something to gripe about, but remember they got from 33 points to 53 on the strength of 14 free throws, not to mention all of the ticky tack fouls that seemed to always go against Georgetown in the first half and went uncalled when Villanova was committing the same fouls.

The officials decided every aspect of this game. They kept 'Nova in it (though our turnovers allowed them to do it) and the foul with 1:55 to go and us up 4 was as bad as the Wallace foul easily. 'Nova didn't deserve this win either. They took awful shots in the second half and got bailed out on hand checks. But we got the last bad call and that's what everyone will remember.

Yeah, come on, I am willing to admit that last call was atrocious but pretty much every possession NOVA had in the last 10 minutes resulted in them getting to the line, and it wasnt even because of driving or players going up underneath. It was Reynolds 25 feet from the basket or loose balls. What did they shoot in the 2nd half - maybe 15%? NOVA had no business winning that game.

I guess since there are 3 different threads about officiating I get to post the same thing in all 3... or should I just decide which one I think is the best?
Last year at Verizon Nova came at us with in-your-face D - swarming, lots of handchecking - not only were we taken aback by that (and their press), but the refs weren't calling anything. What resulted was a very sloppy game that Nova controlled despite the fact that we led most of the way (how? I'll never understand how we scored over 30 points that game).
This year Nova came in playing swarming, handchecking D, and we gave some right back. We were ready to play their kind of game, or is this year's team better adjusted to that style of play? And the refs lost control of the game, but overcompensated in trying to regain control of the game.
Too bad for Nova not getting a chance to win - good for us hanging in there and getting lucky - good for the refs who deserve all the criticism they get.
Post-post disclaimer: I saw everything until 6 minutes left, when I had to leave (yes, that was how much time was left at 9:00 pm), so I'm just going based on what I saw before then and heard otherwise.
EDIT: having now watched replays of the final foul, I think if you're calling a tight game, it's unquestionably a foul. The defender made a special effort to cut all but about a foot of that sideline from Wallace, and he committed a block with his leg (and only his leg).
