How in the hell is Fred Dean going into the NFL Hall of Fame? That is a travesty when you consider some players not getting in. Cris Carter snorted the yayo--but for him to wait due to Fred Dean? Is Pierce Holt now going to get in? Keena Turner? I'd argue vehemently that Charles Haley belongs in HOF before a guy like Fred Dean-but what's the point. This was disgraceful and as much as I despise Minnesota teams--Carter and Randall McDaniel who made 12 straight Pro Bowls--deserved to be in ahead of Dean. Damn--that is awful.
Congrats to deserving Art Monk and Darrell Green, and I am not sold on Gary Zimmerman--especially ahead of McDaniel, and don't know a thing about Emmitt Thomas--so my only true beef is with FRED "Bleepin'" DEAN--who I saw and never thought of as a HOF caliber player. Decent? Sure--but HOF? COME ON!

RDF, i had the same thoughts when i saw the voting. now, i'm a vikings fan and somewhat biased, but frigging fred dean over mcdaniel and carter? mcdaniel was the greatest guard of his time and carter is 2nd all time in receptions and td's and they get snubbed for fred dean and andre tippett (sorry dan). pathetic.

Don't know who Fred Dean is, but the fact that they left out Carter and McDaniel is a JOKE. Not that Monk isn't deserving, but putting him in ahead of Carter is like making Hank Aaron wait a year because you have to get Mel Ott in. Pathetic. And McDaniel was the best guard ever. Why does he have to wait?

You can't say "best ever" in regards to an OL--especially an OG. I think McDaniel was a great player and certainly a HOF--but was he better then Larry Allen who played in same era? Back to the point--Fred Dean getting into the HOF is disgraceful. It just proves how HOF is being cheapened and when you read his bio--they mentioned his "highlight" season and it wasn't as good as some of the guys who played and will never be considered for the HOF--based on fact they weren't consistent enough--which Dean proved he was more of a "solid player" then HOF player. Oh well-Carter got the Michael Irvin treatment (to this day to say Steve Young should be in HOF ahead of Irvin is disgraceful) and Carter will get in--but it's awful that he had to wait while the likes of Fred Dean get in ahead of him. McDaniel played with Zimmerman in Minnesota and it's not even close as to who was a better player-well if you actually watched the Vikings UNLIKE the voters for HOF.

Fair enough on the "best ever point". Should have said "one of the best ever".

NFL HOF voting is often difficult to phathom. I agree about McDaniel and Carter, but I wish a hearty congratulations to Art Monk (at last) and Darrell Green. I think Zimmerman is very deserving, but it's hard to understand him being taken before McDaniel. That would be like Rosie Grier making the HOF ahead of Deacon Jones.

BTW--notice how the focus is all on the guys who were deserving and you get about 2 seconds of "Fred Dean--the former.." that's it. I honestly await to hear next year's class: "Odessa Turner, Mike Cofer, Gary Plummer, Dennis Brown and Riki Ellison".

Voting in Fred Dean over Derrick Thomas is a disgrace, and goes exactly to the point that the voters are rewarding longevity in terms of being on the ballot 8-9 years. The HOF is for players who defined their position, who you had to account for on Tuesday and Wednesday when putting in your game plan. Players like Derrick Thomas, Darrell Green and Cris Carter.

Oh yeah, congrats to Emmitt Thomas. Along with Willie Brown, one of the two best, shut-down corners in the old AFL (and into the NFL). 4th most INTs ever among CBs, a good selection by the Veterans Committee (now if they'd just get Otis Taylor in...)

Just goes to show you how the years go by. I assumed Derrick Thomas was already in--and shows what happens when you assume things with the morons who have votes.

Because of the board's rules, I can't report the rumor I heard that next year's class will be comprised exclusively of long-snappers.

I wasn't knocking Ott--the man has 511 home runs, as I'm sure you know from the clues--I was just saying that it would be wrong to make a superior player wait because a lesser, but deserving, player has been waiting.
