according to their rivals site there's going to be tons of seton hall fans at verizon on saturday a 120 person alumni group coming down plus at least one bus of students. Not good. I'm assuiming/hoping they're up in the 400's, but lets sure to be there early and to be loud and drown them out. Oh and for the boys on the court, don' t let them to have anything to cheer about. make sure they have a long sad trip back to jersey. It's also Georgetown Basketball Alumni weekend, so we'll have plenty of the old-timers in the crowd. I think we can handle a couple hundred rowdy Seton Hallers. And Fan of the Game is a jerk.

Thousands, not hundreds, make a dent at the Verizon Center. 170 people in the 400s will be good to witness the (hoped for) execution, but not to make any noise. By the way, any bets on what a WVU cheer would be for the Pirates? Speaking of bets, anyone taking bets on what color FOTG's Motorola Q is?

Enjoy the game FOTG...I'll be looking for you on my new HD TV...and you better be wearing Hoyas Hawaiian.

So apparently Hall's three centers fouled out against N'Diaye (sp?) from Rutgers. Should we be expecting a hack-a-Roy/Mack strategy to break up our inside game? I haven't seen Seton Hall play, so I don't know if this is a calculated thing, but if so, that will be pretty annoying (though not overly dangerous if Roy keeps swishing FTs.

Well if there's several organized trips down, I'm sure there's plenty of DC area Seton hall alumus who will show up and more people from jersey making their own trips down. There could easily be a large number of Hall fans there.
On the other hand the Hall is not a huge draw so there could be plenty of hoya "fans" who don't bother to show up.
And hoya blue road trips would beg to differ that a few hundred people can't have an impact. We had impact at our seton hall and villinova road trips and those were both at NBA arenas.

Seton Hall: Good offense (30th), not so good (to be kind) defense (159th).
What they do well: Playing at a fast pace and not turning the ball over. Only their PGs turn the ball over at all, and they are pretty good for PGs. They also are a better than expected offensive rebounding team. If we don't bring the intensity, they could really score.
What they do poorly: Pretty much everything on defense. Opponents shoot well from inside and outside, opponents rebound pretty well, opponents don't turn the ball over too much and Seton Hall fouls a lot.
Individuals:
The players I am afraid of are Nutter and Hazell. Harvey's good and he'll penetrate. Laing is an excellent scorer. But without a big game from three, I think we win. And Harvey (21%), Laing (29%), Gause (28%) and Larry Davis (32%) aren't setting the world on fire.
Nutter (41%) and Hazell (37%) aren't consistent, but they can get balzing hot and when they are on, it's like NBA Jam -- you need to guard them out thirty feet.

Gause is apparently a defensive stopper at guard.
I admit that I don't know a lot about this team - they seem to have been on a roll lately. A confident team that is going to stick to their stuff is the exact opposite of the game we had against St. John's. I expect a battle.

Gause is a very good defender, although stopper isn't the word I'd use. He gets steals better than anyone. Just really talented at forcing TOs. But he is small and gambles a decent amount. Perimeter stoppers aren't as valuable versus us because we have no one to focus on.

I agree that we don't have anyone to focus on, but it seems that teams have been concerned with stopping Wallace - this often frees up Sapp and maybe one of the reasons he's having a such a good year.

I've said it for years--and will continue to say it--if a team PRESSURES, you have to ATTACK/SCORE.
Pirates like to put pressure on--and Hoyas should attack and get some easy hoops. Usually teams that press Hoyas and give GU easy hoops will get beat--because GU's offense is so effective in halfcourt. That said,--you've got to ATTACK FOR 40 MINUTES--and not just 1 half or spurt in game.

I wouldn't call that "tons" as I reeeeeeeeeally don't expect the local SHU walkup to approach that of UConn, ND, or Cuse. Difference of course b/t Verizon and the Arena Formerly Known as Continental Airlines last season when it comes to having an "impact"--there are close to 1,000 students in the upper deck at Verizon, as opposed to the one drunk guy in a NASCAR jacket in E. Rutherford. Hope they bring their helmets.

Speaking of attendance, we're averaging 12,140 a game right now with six BE home games left (including the McD game). 13,000 would be an all time high.
The good news is that we're basically averaging a sellout for the three home games we've had. The bad news is that it was Cuse, ND, and UConn. Those tend to sell out or close.
I think Louisville might and maybe Villanova, but Seton Hall? S. Florida? Cincy? SJU?
We've only had ten home games, so to reach 13k average we need to average 14,434. We've had an 8k minimum at MCI, more or less, and versus even legit teams it has been 11k or 12k. But USF, Seton Hall, Cincy?
Home draws for these teams last year:
Villanova: 12k Cincinnati: 13k
Now, granted, attendance has been up across the board, but it might be close.

Sellouts are seemingly loosely defined at Verizon -- I heard the term used for both ND (attendance 19,286) and Syracuse (20,035). However, if we can match ND attendance for the two good games left (ville and nova) then we only need to average 11,200 for the other three. Given the UC attendance from last year that seems doable. The only major obstacle is timing. Of the 5 games remaining, 2 are the dreaded noon saturday tip, and 2 are midweek games one of which is late at 9pm (albeit excellent for us west coasters). Only Nova feels like a big game -- appropriately enough on Big Monday.

Every time someone links to another team's board it makes me thankful for how easy to read ours is. Speaking of which, whatever happened to the Georgetown student/pirate's fan who was talking trash before the match up at continental last year. Has he been posting again on their board? EDIT: JuniorJinx is the kid in question, and the one who started the thread posted up a few posts.

I don't understand how anyone could go to Georgetown and root against their own school? I think you have to be mentally challenged to do something like that. I know some people have other teams they root for from childhood, but to root against your own school? If the only reason you attend a school is for academics, then you're in the wrong place. I would like to meet this Junior Jinx character and have a little "friendly" discussion.

Someone on campus just woke me up in the middle of the night by calling me to say there was some lunatic outside screaming for a guy named Junior Jinx to "come out and get his whuppin'." After reading this thread, it makes a whole lot more sense. Like others have said already in this thread, if we control their 3 point shooting, we will be fine. Generally, I've been very happy with our perimeter defense the last two games, but neither of those teams have had any guards who can penetrate and kick to open shooters on a consistent basis. SHU will present a different challenge from that perspective.

Anyone else watch the Seton Hall Rival Reel on hoyahoops.com? I hope they play it tomorrow, I found it very entertaining and the best by far this year.
