I know it's WAY too early to speculate on the seedings for the BET, especially in this year's conference, however, it doesn't hurt us to look at how things are looking now that we're close to a third of the way through our conference schedule. Using the current conference standings, plus a little bit of my own idea of how things will play out, here's the bracket I drew up:
Rutgers(11)/Villanova(6) vs. UConn(3) Providence(10)/UPitt(7) vs. BC(2)
West Virginia(9)/Seton Hall(8) vs. Syracuse(1) Notre Dame(5) vs. Georgetown(4)
Out of tourney due to sanctions- St. Johns
As you can see, there will be 3 play in games and you have to be in the top 3 in the conference to play against a team that had to play a first round game. My guess is we'll be 4 or 5 if things continue to go well and we'll get a bye to the quarterfinal, but a tough matchup. I'm kinda hoping that Syracuse wins the conference so that we can potentially face them in the semis.
Again this is VERY preliminary, but it's interesting to see where we would be right now in the very temporary new tournament format.
The Notre Dame game on Sunday is obviously very huge for us for multiple reasons. One of which is that we could face them first in the BET.

Here's the way I imagine the BE finishing up:
(1) BC (2) Cuse (3) UCONN (4) Hoyas (5) ND (6) Pitt (7) VU (8) Providence (9) Seton Hall (10) WVU (11) Rutgers
Making the bracket look this way
Rutgers (11)/Pitt (6) v. UCONN (3) WVU (10)/Villanova (7) v. Cuse (2)
Seton Hall (9)/Providence (8) vs. BC (1) Notre Dame (5) v. Hoyas (4)
A very preliminary bracket. Only real difference is that I give Providence more credit and give WVU none.

I'd love to be top 5 to get avoid a play in game, and we will most likely need to be top 5 to make the NCAAs.

I can't stand seeing BC at the top of your list. I hate cuse but I'd much rather have them win it then those back stabbing ACCholes right before they run away to the ESPN conference. I say cuse wins it.

Guys- I agree that BC is vulnerable, but they're undefeated both overall and in the Big East. They also beat a UConn team that beat us by 7. I don't think they're as good as Syracuse, but it's clear they're a top Big East team. But it's clear we can compete w/ any team in this conference, so I like our chances.
Now let's go and take care of ND on Sunday....

Hey all, Well I must say im dissapointed about the syracuse outcome, it sucks we only get one regular season shot at these guys cause I think we win this game on our home floor, but I cant complain about the good coverage, that is always good for the recruiting scene. That said, I think that before we start talking about the big east tourney, tournament etc, we be very careful about what we are saying here. First off, no one is gonna sleep on us anymore. Teams know we are good and they are gonna come out fired up to beat us. Second, we got a few good quality wins at the beginning of the big east schedule, but nothing that screams to me that we are gonna beat a top team yet until we actually do. Third, our win against pitt is starting to look, well, not so good. I am genuinely scared about any game we play, not because I think this team isnt different then in the past, they certainly are, but just the fact that the competition seems so even in the big east this year, we are just as likely to be ranting about dropping 4 straight next week as we are about winning four. I think ND is gonna be a tough game. If there is anything we can do to help ourselves its to get a good showing at mci. There really is no excuse for people that are fans and live in dc. If you havent jumped back on the bandwagon at this point and if you werent around to begin with, you probably arent gonna be there anyway. So we need to focus on those that will come out and really get people fired up. I mean, standing all game, yelling your guts out etc. We need to make a home game feel like a home game and that will be the difference between this team winning a couple big games and losing them. Anyway, I dont mean to be a pessimist, I am as excited about this team as the next person and have been waiting a long time to see them get good again, but I am also cautiously optimistic. All this talk about an 8 seed, big east top seed etc is getting me scared cause I dont want to think like that till we have the swagger to come out with a win in one of these big games. So we will see what happens, I just wouldnt get crazy about it, because it will be easier to evaluate just where we are in about 4-5 games.
