Watching the Pitt game, I often times felt that DaJuan needed to be more aggressive in his play. He is a good, but not great, jump shooter who often settles for difficult jumpers. My question is, with a usual 2" height advantage, should he be looking to play inside more and/or attack the rim? I think he would be able to get into a better rythem and we need him to be more assertive. It seems like to many of his shots are difficult contested jumpers.
Thoughts?

What the offense misses this year compared to last year is any semblance of a mid-range game. We already have two players floating around the 3 point line (Wallace and Freeman), one that does that sometimes and drives to the basket sometimes (Sapp) and one player who plays down low (Hibbert). Summers needs to flash into the lane more and post up more - we can't forget that he's playing a different position this year (PF vs. SF), and he has to adjust to that. If he doesn't, and we don't a higher percentage of three pointers, it will get ugly against a zone. Syracuse Monday will be interesting.

I don't think he needs to be more aggressive. In fact, I think he needs to try and stop forcing things so much. He'll be fine.

DaJuan usually ends up taking those jumpers (or driving and getting called for the charge) when he is trying to be too aggressive. If he needs to do anything it's to put more faith into the offense and better recognize when it is and isn't appropriate for him to create his own shot.

1. he needs to grow up and let the game come to him, rather than trying to "be the man" and impress nba scouts with his range.
2. he needs to look at Jeff's stats and see how he was just as, or more valuable, TO THE TEAM, in several games that he did not score a bunch of points. that mentality earned Jeff the #5 pick and me a bunch of grief! lol
3. he needs to add variety to his game and be known as more than just a solid 6'8 3 point shooter

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- because hes not a freaking robot and every player has slumps in their career. Give it some time, I cant believe all the panic about DaJuan so far. Sure, he hasnt played very well, but he also hasnt needed to. We have so many weapons on this team and we emphasize a team focused style of play that gives many different players a shot at being the star on a given night. If DaJuan still isnt scoring when were in trouble and really need someone to step up then we can start to worry, but not when weve barely trailed in a game. Link to Post - Back to Top Logged

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is Wallace averaging? How many points are Jesse scoring a game? Ewing? They're in the same boat as DaJuan. This was Ewing's first double-digit outing by the way.
Why worry? They aren't even playing for real yet. And from what i saw in the highlights of the Ball State game DaJuan got almost all of his points by going strong to the basket. He doesn't have the luxury of working on an offense that will put up 100 + points against lesser opponents and therefore isn't getting the opportunity to score. But it will come. Though I do admit I wish the team would stop working on the finer points of the offense and look to up the tempo. --------------------------------------------
According to a few of the regulars here who made the above posts after the first 4 games of the season... "Why Worry?". For the record, I was not worrying... just being observant.
Half way into the season... one thing is for sure... Dajuan has been pressing and as a result he has been inconsistent. One day he'll score 16 and look silky smooth... the next he'll be shooting 3 for 9 from the line (or whatever he shot against memphis)... another time he's pulled in crunch time in our big easy home opener...the next game he'll put up a donut in a loss where we needed his leadership.
In the end, I think Dajuan will continue to get better as a player... but it is going to take some time before he develops the leadership abilities needed to take this team far. I think we just need to be patient and have realistic expectations.

He's a lot like Brandon Bowman, but he still has 2+ years to improve. Ball-handling is the biggest area for improvement for him and then the rest will follow, because he can put it in the basket when he gets near the basket and doesn't turn it over.

I agree Buffalo good idea. The Hoyas have not replaced the aggregate talents of Green completely. Ewing can provide the rebounding and some of the defense that Green provided, but at 6'10" Green could guard not only the big forward, but could also slide to the center position and hold his own against most big men in the league. Macklin now is the Hoya's only option at guarding a good opposing big man. Summers can give the Hoya's the scoring that Green provided from the outside. The thing that none of the above can give the Hoyas this year is another inside post up player to go along with Roy. I have yet to see Ewing and Summers post up in the 2 years that they have been here and it doesn't seem to be forthcoming. Macklin to this date has only shown the running hook that is really only effective if the lane is clear of other Hoyas. This limits that move to the times when he is spelling Roy at center ,not while playing big forward. To be fair JT3 has only used him at big forward in one game(Pitt).

i really don't like the comparisons to jeff, because he and dajuan are different players. that said, we are now looking for summers to do a lot of the things that jeff did. two things stand out in particular. 1. high post game: that mid range jumper from the foul line is essential to beating the 2-3 zone. dajuan can hit that shot. 2. low post game: i remember reading that dajuan played the post in high school. now he seems to be astrictly perimeter player. i don't get it. he needs to bulk up and get stronger offensively and defensively so he doesn't get muscled around when we play big front courts like memphis.
i don't know if he needs to be more aggresive so much as adjust his playing style to the teams needs. it's okay for him to be the perimeter guy or slasher when he's playing the three, but if he's starting at the four, then he needs to play bigger and adjust his fame accordingly.
