According to GUHoyas.com there is no specific timetable for Chris' return. hoyasaxa.com has the headline "Wright Out Indefinitely"
1. at what point do you think about asking for a medical red shirt or is it too late? he has played in 11 of our 29 games regular season schedule.
2. is the team better with Chris at half speed/playing ability or is it to much to risk and not worth wasting a full season plagued by a nagging ankle injury assuming he can still get a medical red shirt?
3. if Chris is unable to return 100% and can not get a medical red shirt, how do you see the remaining portion of the season unfolding?

idhoya, you are a fool. for you to think that we will not make the big east tourney forces me to make my 3rd post and call you out as someone who knows nothing. At our worst, we are the 3rd best team in the big east. i hope you go to marquette.

I'm not sure what the rule is, but I think it'd be highly unlikely for him to be eligible to be redshirted, given how many games he played.
I'm also not sure why you're insinuating we're at half speed/playing ability without one guy in the lineup. Last I checked, we still have a reasonably athletic team with decent speed, even without Chris.

under7, I was being sarcastic based on mr.sixer's #3? It was far too subtle for our collective sarcasm detection methods, although we are usually very good at dectecting it ***** ***** THIS IS SACRASM

I was so hoping that this was a thread about Metro.
A significant component to the decision is how well Chris is. IF the injury is minor, and IF a medical redshirt is impossible or not desired, and IF the goal of this team is success in March, then it may be worthwhile to keep him out a few extra games to heal a little more.
The extent of the injury is critical here.

We would have to make the final four. The cut off is LESS THAN 30% of games...
29 games REGULAR SEASON + 3 games BE TOURNEY + 4 games to make final four = 37 games.... 11/37 = ~ 29% so if we make a run to the final four he can get a medical redshirt, IF post season play even counts, but I'm not sure that it does.

No....we only officially have 30 games - the BET counts as one and the NIT/NCAAs don't count towards the red shirt total. So at 11/30 Chris has played in more then 30% and is thus ineligible for a red shirt. I hate to cite Syracuse but this actually explains it pretty well: blog.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/2007/12/devendorf_eligible_for_medical.html

The cut off is less than 30% of games, but I remember having this conversation about somebody in recent years, and if I'm not mistaken postseason games do not count towards the game total...so I think it's too late for Wright to get a med red. The flip side is, there is no point in rushing him back just to lose him a month later because it was too soon.
I say, get him as much rest as he needs now and err on the side of caution...it always gets tricky when you've aggravated an injury. Give him plenty of time to heal and once he's absolutely 100%, get him back, no matter when that is.

Would Wright even be a candidate for redshirting if he hadn't reached the 30% cutoff?? Somehow I can't see players of his caliber sticking around college for 5 years (even if it is Georgetown ;D)

Although his size might be a problem, I just can't imagine someone already as good as him to stay in college for 5 years. Also, word on campus is pretty clear-cut, AS OF RIGHT NOW, he is most likely not coming back this season. It's not really even a rumor by this point.

It's snowing in DC. Shut the city down. whether or not this was sarcastic, that really happens. 2 inches of snow here is like 6+ anywhere else. its pathetic. and ice-- that is like the apocalypses additionally, why does it seem like every two or three months there is a serious confusion over someone's use of sarcasm? i remember over the summer there was like a week long stretch where every thread had an exchange about sarcasm being misunderstood. for being such smart people (based on associating ourselves with georgetown basketball) we sure can be extremely stupid.

If that's true that's really bad news for Wright and for the Hoyas.

Isn't this the third or fourth time hoyastrong has shared the same "word on campus" as it relates to Chris?
Hey, I'm not on campus, so I don't know anything. All I'm sayin' is, "OK, that's what you've heard; we got it."
As for sarcasm, we may need to bring back the sarcasm brackets.
For example:
[sarcasm] I value highly and treasure dearly hifigator's opinion as it relates to...pretty much anything.
[/sarcasm]
