I think both sides come out badly on this issue.
Stereotype that Rich Rod is scum? Check
Stereotype that WVU is run by hicks that wouldn't back up sensitive files? Check

Well, considering Rodriguez and WVU are currently parties to a rather important lawsuit, I'm not going to say Rodriguez is crooked just yet. I mean, we are talking about WFV here -- it's a state of abundant shadiness.
In tangentially related news, Ryan Mallett to Arkansas.

Three things I learned:
3. Rich Rodriguez is apparently dead set on competing in EVERY category against Ohio State. (though he's still second to Mr. Shady, Jim Tressel.)
2. Why didn't anyone ASK him for these files before he left, if they're so damn important?
and most revealing....
1. Computers have reached virtually every part of the world, but apparently not West Virginia.

as a michigan fan, this is a little alarming. first, the lawsuit, then death threats against rodriguez family members, and now this. can't everyone just move on.
i agree with boz that you'd figure the brass at wvu would have made sure any sensitive material was removed from his office before anything like this could happen, but then again this is west virginia we're talking about.
seems everything with rodriguez turns into a he said she said ordeal. mallett claims he barely got a word in when he spoke to rodriguez about staying. rodriguez claims he talked to mallett 3 times and told him he could fit the offense around him. who's telling the truth? well, rodriguez has a much better chance of landing terrelle pryor if mallett isn't around. just saying...
speaking of pryor, seems like the next michigan-osu battle is for his services. rodriguez promising a 'shot' at the starting job with henne and mallett gone and sweater vest saying he's going back to the spread he ran with troy smith. i guess we'll see how low each coach will go in the next 3 weeks.

As for Pryor, I think Michigan has to be the odds on favorite. I honestly have no idea why he would even be considering Ohio State. Their system doesn't fit him at all, and Tressel most certainly isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I still holding out hope for my Gators. Every year there are those 6 or 8 can't miss five star guys, but I think he would be tremendous in our system. And if he were to redshirt next season, then he would be a freshman in Tebow's senior season, if in fact Tebow returns for all 4 years. As for the files, I am curious if this filing system might have been something that Rich's staff put together to begin with. If not, and this detailed information on each player is in fact, commonplace, then you would think that 1. There would be a system in place to keep this from happening and 2. It would have happened at some point in the past as well.

I don't know what to think. On the surface, something certainly doesn't sound right. For some reason, I have this feeling that Rich Rodriguez is a modern day snake oil salesman, but I don't really know why. Making it even harder to define is the fact that Urban Meyer speaks very highly of Rodriguez. (Insert joke here _________) In all honesty though, Meyer, whether you like him or not, is a very straight forward guy. At least on the surface, that appears to be the polar opposite of Rodriguez.

With the way the mud has been flying, you knew it had to be coming soon. And here it is -- the race card! Noting the low number of black coaches who hold important jobs in CFB, and also noting that racial epithets are commonly thrown around at WVU sporting events, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there's some truth to these allegations. But who knows what to believe in this crazy feud?

as a michigan fan, this is a little alarming. first, the lawsuit, then death threats against rodriguez family members, and now this. can't everyone just move on. I didn't read the latest story, but I did react to your comment about being a Michigan fan and wishing everyone could just move on. I guess if I were a UM fan, I would hope for the same thing. But if I were a WVU fan, and I saw UM come in and steal my basketball coach who had a $2.5million contract buyout clause, and then I saw UM come in and steal my football coach who had a $5 million buy out clause, and neither of UM nor either of the coaches wanted to live up to the terms of their buy-out clauses, I'd be pretty Editeded. As a fan of neither school, UM looks pretty bad to me. And so do the two coaches. I did read that Beilein -- who I think is a pretty reputable guy -- worked out a deal to pay $1.5 instead of $2.5 million, and pay it to the WVU Foundation -- i.e Tax Deductible. Still, this all makes college athletics look pretty bad... again. And UM in particular looks really bad. Isn't the same school that paid the famous Fab Five basketball players? Not picking on UM, but I did think the "wish we could all move on" line was a little disingenous.

first, it's disingenuous. second, you've got to be kidding. wvu won't just let it go. they have every right to the buyout if a court rules in their favor, but what about the smear campaign against rodriguez since he left. the 'important player files' he shredded were copies that 3 other administrative offices had in their possession. the wvu administration is acting like an insane ex-girlfriend after they got dumped. get over it. if they wanted to keep rodriguez, they should have done the upgrades to the facilities they promised.
not to mention the wvu fans harrassing rodriguez family members. destroying property and death threats against family members in school. and michigan is the bad guy here? please.

I couldn't feel less bad for either school or--with the exception of the players and family members themselves--any of the people invovled
