Absolutely incredible run. Boudreaus probably front runner for Adams. OV has got Hart locked up. And Backstrom has an outside shot of beating Kane for Calder. I would not wanna play the Caps right now

Congratulations to the Caps! Outstanding run to end the season, 15-4-1.
I'm still not certain who they'll be playing in the first round, but it won't be Boston. I would've enjoyed that match-up, but at least now I can root for both teams.
(I am a little nervous at the tangled, frightening growth that will emerge as Ovechkin grows his "playoff beard" though!)
And I guess I got my wish. No matter what happens in the Pens-Flyers game today, Boston will face Montreal in the first round, either 1-8 or 2-7.
This could be epic or it could be scary ugly (I'm leaning toward scary ugly, but you never know). If they could pull it off, that would make up for a lot of demons (at least fan demons), most recently their first round exit a few years ago at the hands of the hated Habs.

All I have to say to Boz regarding playoff seedings:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
That said, I'm soooooo glad the Sabres tanked March. As high as 6th before imploding. That's what you get for having swiss cheese as a backup netminder, forcing Miller to play what... 40 games in a row? Terrible, Darcy. Terrible. Hopefully some serious roster implosion is on the way. Now the predictions (which assume a 100% healthy Sid the Kid and a healthy Habs lineup):
Montreal over Boston Pittsburgh over Ottawa Washington over Philly NJ over NYR
Detroit over Nashville San Jose over Calgary Colorado over Minnesota Dallas over Anaheim
Montreal over NJ Pittsburgh over Washington
Detroit over Dallas San Jose over Colorado
Pittsburgh over Montreal Detroit over San Jose
Detroit over Pittsburgh
The Cup heads back to Detroit, order is restored to the universe (no more of this garbage Tampa, Carolina, Anaheim crap), hockey fans rejoice.
Except Boz, he'll be too busy cursing all things Montreal... again...

Fear not, Buffalo. If the Stanley Cup returns to any traditional city (and traditional city not located in Quebec or New York, that is), I too will be rejoicing. My first round predictions aren't too different from yours, except of course I will stupidly predict that Boston will pull off the upset ( ) and Anaheim will beat Dallas. Much to the chagrin of Gary Bettman, I think New Jersey will beat Washington (2nd round) and Pittsburgh (finals) on their way to the Stanley Cup finals. In the West, with re-seeding, I have Detroit over Colorado and Anaheim over San Jose in the second round, with Detroit winning the conference and the Cup. (Admittedly, I am picking the matchup I want to see in the West, but I think there's a pretty good chance it could happen). On a side note, good to see that the NHL has finally figured out what's good for them (a little bit anyway). In the Capitals series, 6 out of the seven games are scheduled for national TV (except game 7, and they' probably change that if it goes to a game 7) -- 4 on Versus and 2 on NBC. On the other hand, only one of the Pittsburgh games is scheduled for national TV, which they really need to fix. Honestly, what else is Versus going to program for the next month? The Tour de France doesn't start until July. For that matter, NBC's got a whole lot of nothing to put on the air too. NBC is picking up two Detroit games, but really? No Sidney Crosby? Are you dumb or somethin'?

Buff, you've got everything right, except for one small little detail, which is that the Pens end up upsetting the Red Wings in 6, and Signor Malkin brings Sir Stanley's huge ass cup back to Pittsburgh.

Abbreviated version of my crystal ball...
Habs sweep Bruins, the Forum, umm Centre Bell starts singing 'hey hey hey goodbye' in the 1st period of game 2. Boz's and Buffalo's mouths froth with anger and then their heads explode.
This year's playoffs prove to be the most competitive in recent memory (save the above-mentioned shellacking)
Habs vs Sharks in the final, my allegiances are tested. I don my #29 bleu, blanc, rouge. Habs win, parade on Ste Catherine's street. Poutine, Smoked Meat sandwiches, and Molson Exports for everyone!

Since when do I have a problem with Montreal?

Minnesota and Colorado gearing up for another classic series. That was a great Game 1. (...sigh...I miss Brian Rolston.) Not quite the hated rivalry that Detroit-Colorado was, but some great hockey. Joe Sakic = Jessie Sapp

Flames get out of San Jose with 1 of 2. The games north of the border should be top stuff. The Sharks are a damn good team on the road, but the Saddledome goes absolutely nuts in the playoffs.

I missed all of the late games yesterday because I wanted to watch the Michigan-Notre Dame game (more on that), but I was hoping Calgary would take the first two games for that very reason - San Jose's performance on the road this year.
But if Calgary is anything like Montreal was last night, the Flames should have a pretty good home ice advantage.
As for the Montreal-Bruins game, well, there's no two ways about it. It was a plain old shellacking out behind the woodshed. If Boston comes out that poorly prepared this weekend, they'll be on the golf course by Wednesday.
Montreal's just plain faster and better passing, all there is to it. But Boston should be able to slow them down a little better than that. Sheesh!
I do think Montreal is really vulnerable in their own zone, and to counter attacks, but as an "offensively challenged" team, the Bruins probably aren't the squad to exploit that.
As for the Frozen Four, Jebus, where did BC come from with that onslaught? And how the hell does Michigan go into an 0-3 hole versus Notre Dame? That's ridiculous. Yeah, they made it up, but by the time they did, they were in a next goal wins scenario with a team they should have blown out. I'm sure if you told ND they'd be going into overtime with Michigan before the game started, they would've taken it.
I think I'm more disappointed in Michigan's loss than Boston's to be honest. The Wolverines will never, EVER live that one down. They have no business losing to a team like Notre Dame.
BC - Irish. Good lord. There has never been a Frozen Four final in my lifetime that I've been less interested in seeing.

What a game between the Caps and the Flyers!
Caps fell asleep in the 2nd, but boy did they come alive in the 3rd. Ovechkin gets the game winner in true Ovechkin style.

I want BC to win this Frozen Four final, but they've gotten unbelievably lucky in this final. That was so clearly NOT a kick - it was a deflection. Then 30 seconds later a puck goes off a ND player and what should have been a 3-2 game becomes a 4-1 game.

LIFE!!!!
I think I've aged 20 years with games 2 and 3. The refs really just have to let them play in this series though. They're calling some pretty weak stuff....on both sides. (don't get me started on the OT penalty on Markov in Game 2; and that friggin' Kovalev's been a wussy little flopper his whole career and they're still rewarding him for it.)
Shame on Boston fans for the showing in the Garden tonight. The Red Sox and Yankees have, like, 35 games left this season to play each other. That was Edited poor attendance, allowing so many Habs fans to get tickets.
Awful game by the Caps today. Guess that goes without saying. They're pretty lucky not to be heading to Philly down 0-2. But I think they'll split there too and come back to DC even.
Looking forward to this Calgary-San Jose game now. EDIT: On second thought. . . .ye gods, that's a good first 10 minutes for San Jose, huh?

Was at Game 2 of the Caps series. The fans were into it, but the team just wasn't. Ironically both the Flyers goals came early when the Caps looked like the better team, but after that the Flyers just dominated, although they couldn't find the net again thanks to Huet.

Outstanding comeback by the Flames!
Patrick Marleau might be lucky to get out of the Saddledome alive. What did he do, steal something from Calgary? Good lord, they pounded him.

Team of destiny, now, baby! (All we have to do is avoid a let down, Sakic in OT, and the Dead Things. And the Penguins in the Final. Easy.)
The hit on Marleau was bone-crunching. Ouch!
What in God's name happened to the Sens? Murray needs to be tossed into the Rideau Canal and floated back to Washington. Clear the place out!
This whole scheduling-late-games-just-because-they're-playing-in-the-West thing has to stop. Eastern primetime only, please...
