i golfed in a charity golf tournament in utica, ny and chatted with mike hopkins, syracuse assistant coach. we were stuck waiting on a tee and some of my co-workers asked hopkins about syracuse recruit and utica native josh wright. hopkins said wright might not get as much playing time next year as people think becuas ehe may have someone playing ahead of him at the point. that person is billy edelin. edelin re-enrolled at syracuse and is taking summer classes. he has some work to do academically in order to to reinstated to the team.
then hopkins mentioned that syracuse may be getting a 6-8 forward from DC. obviously, i knew he was talking about jeff. he said the kid may get out of his current commitment because of a coaching change at the school. he mentioned that prep school was a possibility for the coming season. he did not mention the SAT issue at all. he did not mention jeff's name or georgetown in particular. i felt like ripping him a new one, but i was surrounded by syracuse fans, and more importantly my boss. hopkins sounded really excited about the possibility of adding jeff and made it sound more than likely that it might happen.
i pray jeff qualifies with his latest SAT effort and that he comes to georgetown. if he ends up at syracuse, that will be a disaster.

If Green goes to prep school and reopens, is it set in stone we lose him? I understand schools like 'Cuse and others will come calling, but won't we still be in the running? I'm still unsure about what to think about Green off the court...he seems like a great player but I am unsure as to whether or not he wants to be here. I guess its just keeping all options open if he reopens his recruitment, but that shows me he isn't sold on GU, and if that's the case, do we really want him? I guess I'd just like to hear him or someone near him say "If he qualifies, he's going to GU as he promised, but if he doesn't, he wants to explore other options." I guess we can intuit that (if that's a word), but I'm just getting a bit wishy-washy about a guy who seems to maybe have lost interest in the program.

I'd like to hear that too, although if it happens, I'd imagine the comment will be made by Jeff's dad, who has been pushing the Georgetown move all along. I'm hoping that Jeff got the score he needed, but I guess we'll find out soon. (He'll be able to get it starting on the 18th).

Thanks for the info HoyaFanNY and it's amazing that Hopkins was so openly speaking about another school's player (he is until he enrolls in another school) but then again he works with Troy Weaver who would know about Green from his DC Assault days. Edelin coming back was written about in last week's Sporting News as well so it must be true. My question is why would Jeff Green want to sit out a year? Is playing at GU that bad? Especially when you consider that JT III is more likely to surround him with players of higher caliber and developing some buzz about Hoyas for first time since AI was on Campus. We're seeing better players mention GU, take unofficials, commit--Thornton is a big time recruit, and he wants to bail because Esh left? Makes no sense to me but little does when it comes to the way kids make decisions. Anyways, if Green makes it, great. If not, nice to see the Hoyas involved for many kids that play PF/SF position including Jerome Johnson--still hasn't decided, Theo Davis--who Orange are also after, Eric Boateng--PF/C, and many others. So it's not as if we won't have options because it's simply Green is a Hoya next year or we have a full season to replace him recruiting wise, but it's apparent from all outlets our odds of getting him are slim if he doesn't qualify--unless GU hires Dave Cox who coaches Assualt now and he's in the running for position on Staff so all is not lost, but he's not hired as of now and it's speculation at this point. Thanks again for the info and you are a better man than I for biting your tongue around a bunch of Cuse fans.

I would've asked him if he cheated at golf, too.
But on Jeff, Syracuse thinks they've got him locked up, and Maryland seems to think they've got him locked up. A guy on MDvarstiy seems to think he's a lock for Gtown regardless, but Cox wouldn't hurt.
Does Jeff even really know?

I know it's tempting to get ahead of ourselves, but until the guys are actually enrolled at G'Town the rest of it is all speculation.

To be honest, I hope he comes to GU. BUT, if he's luke warm, I'd rather not have him. Prtograms are built on players committed to the school, the program, teamates....If he really wants out I could not care less if he goes to Cuse or anywhere else. If we are a great program, we will get the right level talent and will handle Green and anyone else thrown at us. That's the way it used to be and the way it will be again. If the guy's truly hesitating, playing games, good riddance!

I think we'll have a good future with or without Jeff Green. I would love for him to be a part of the renaissance, but if he doesn't want to then we'll find someone else who will. Life goes on.

We'll see how good Green turns out to be, wherever he happens to land. If he is a true impact player, then losing him would be a big blow, as it would put us back at least a year in terms of establishing a presence at that PF position.

We'll know by end of this week if Green will be a Hoya or not. His grades will be out and he'll get back his test score from latest SAT attempt. So this should signify whether or not he becomes a Hoya. From all we've heard, it's either he gets score and is a Hoya or he heads to Prep and goes to Cuse or Maryland.
Good news is that GU isn't sitting back and praying for the score. They have hosted Jerome Johnson on a visit and he's not signed with any of his final 3--DePaul, VT, or GU--late in bidding for his signature. Some speculate he's waiting to see if Dorrell Wright stays in NBA Draft which will be known by Wednesday--last day you can pull name out of Draft--. It's also the same week Jeff will get his test score and know what is going on, so that could be a factor as well, especially considering Hoyas got involved so late--as of May 24, GU wasn't listed with Johnson.
And of course, Hoyas are listed with a who's who of PF/SF in the class of '05, so we'll see Hoyas with plenty of options. Just would be nice to keep a local player as talented as Green in the fold and to stick one to Weaver and Cuse! ;D

RDF - Jerome Johnson....class of '04 or '05? Also, by when do Boateng, other '04 guys have to make decisions? GO HOYAS!!! Johnson is a signee eligible to play in College next year. He just needs to decide where to attend school. At this point you can't sign an LOI, you sign a "Scholarship Agreement" which says you plan to play at a particular school, etc.... and it's similar to what happened with Ashanti Cook when he left New Mexico for GU. Boateng is a class of '05 prospect and has another year of High School. He and others can sign in Fall or Spring of their Senior Seasons. I've heard he wants to commit before school starts and he's already taken two of his official visits--Michigan and UCLA.
