With Bedard missing his turn this weekend and no timetable for his next start he may be out of the running.

Mr. Beckett is now 19-6 after 3-hitting the Yanks and defeating Wang in the process. He has put himself in pretty good position late in the year.

As good as Beckett has been -- and he's been great most of the year -- my guy's in Cleveland. Sabathia's got 40 more innings than Beckett and that's huge. I think Santana deserves it a bit more than Beckett as well, but Beckett isn't a bad pick.

Interesting that you would use the words huge and Sabathia in the same sentence. Insert (David) Wells in there and you'd have the hat trick. ...CC has a great shot at it.

Hey Dan--if MLB is so "concerned with the history of these teams"--shouldn't Beckett miss at least 1 of his starts? Afterall--it was obvious that he hit Giambi on purpose for Wang hitting Youkilis--on an unintentional pitch--but we all know MLB/Selig SLURP for the Red Sox--so I'm guessing nothing will come of it. BTW--I have no problem with what Beckett did--but tire of the bias from Selig/his Yankee hating Police. If someone can get suspended 2 games for NOT HITTING someone--with umpires going inside the player's head/worried about intent-I'd say Josh Beckett can get a start taken from him for drilling Giambi on purpose--which was obvious. But then again-I'd expect the Red Sox loving MLB to ignore this and not have anything come of it--which is pathetic/comical. Just say what is obvious--you have it out for one team in this. Baseball players should be able to do what Beckett did--but if you are going to toss Chamberlin without warnings being issued and for NOT hitting anyone--I'd say Beckett's got to get a game or you just blatantly show favortism.

I would have probably opted for Bedard, his Oriolesness nothwithstanding, and I think Santana is out of the equation thanks to his 0-5 against the Indians. That, and I'm still waiting for Godot.

I've never heard a Yankee fan whine about being a victim of an MLB/Selig led conspiracy before. Back on topic, the field has really narrowed itself. Haren and Escobar have faded, Bedard got hurt and Santana's only had one quality start since his 17 K game. I'd be ok with either Sabathia or Beckett winning at this point. Sabathia's more deserving, due to the 40 extra innings at the same ERA, but Beckett's pitched really well also. If I had to predict who gets it, I'd say Beckett (that's the NYC-Bristol-Boston Media Conspiracy there), but Sabathia should probably get it.

RDF - the answer is obviously that 'nuclear' Roger Goodell is not running MLB.
As an interesting side point, apparently Chamberlain and Clay Buchholz are good friends and CB has been spreading the word in the Sox clubhouse that Chamberlain did not have the evil intent attributed to him. Doubt we'll ever know for sure (although it would not surprise me in the least if a little Clemens whisper in the ear inspired the two slipped pitches), but the suspension seemed a bit of an overreaction.
