Help me out here...
Throwing out personal feelings (e.g. I hate Villanova more than I hate BC, etc.) who should Hoya fans be rooting for in the Big East this week?
This is just a fun little conversation (slow day at the office)...obviously if the Hoyas are going to the NCAAs they're going to have to earn it on the court and not worry about who beats who around the league.
Monday Connecticut at Seton Hall - UConn seems the obvious choice here. A) we play them twice B) We want them to be "seen" as a top 15 team at the end of the year for purposes of quality losses and (hopefully) quality wins
Tuesday Pittsburgh at St. John's - I believe for pure RPI the answer would be St. John's, as we play them twice. But I'm thinking we'd rather have Pittsburgh build itself back up and start winning some games so we can look back at our win over them as a quality win at the end of the season.
Wednesday Villanova at Boston College - We play Villanova twice, so probably them. Then again, I wouldn't mind BC being undefeated and at top ten team when we play them at the end of the month. Another argument, BC looks like they are cruising to an NCAA berth. We may be competing with Villanova for one at the end of the year. So who winning helps the Hoyas more?
Wednesday Notre Dame at West Virginia - I think ND gets the nod. We play them twice, plus if we beat them on Sunday we want their perceived strength to be as high as possible when we do so.

If we're trying to win the conference...
Seton Hall to beat UCONN...St. John's to beat Pitt...Villanova to beat BC...West Va. to beat Notre Dame...
If we're just 'jockeying' for position, nothing wrong with the scenarios you proposed...I think we'll split with Notre Dame and we can sweep West Va., so we need to play the numbers game...
We HAVE to sweep St. John's, which will not be easy...they've been in contention in most of their games...

I hope Syracuse wins tomorrow so that their RPI will be better, which helps us.

I hope Syracuse wins tomorrow so that their RPI will be better, which helps us. I'd rather have a win over a top ten program... If we can win the rest of our games, we don't need to worry about that RPI mess... Not feasible...But you play to win the game...

Yes, CS, Frank Black has a habit of making posters looked like they have egg on their face falling into his traps. You should have read him as Black Francis.

One of the great things about having the program moving in a positive direction is that Frank Black is back, posting regularly. The message he posted on the Duke Board is classic. Does anyone still have that?

You can't count on the NCAA taking more than five BE teams, so to make the tournament Georgetown needs to finish in the top five. If you figure UConn, Syracuse, BC are in and SJ, SH, Rutgers, Providence will be out, then GU, Pitt, WV, ND, Nova are playing for probably two spots. Hoyas need those guys to lose.
