OK, so ESPN has apparently decided that Nascar is bigger than Around the Horn and PTI. They gave 5-6 to the new show, NASCAR Nation. That's right, 1 freaking hour of Nascar drivel instead of their two best shows. This is crap. Watch out sports fans, rednecks are...ON THE MARCH!

You would be amazed at how many NASCAR fans there are. I think it's the fastest growing "sport" in America. I am not a fan of NASCAR but since you feel free to disparage all who are by using the word "redneck", I wonder what other categories of people it's permissible also to disparage. Not picking on you particularly, Bubb, but it always amazes me how many people on thie board look down their noses at others who have different interests or come from different locations in the country.

Actually, I kind of agree with you easyed. I think you are pointing out (correctly) just one of the many examples of the hypocrisy of the tolerance mafia. Subscribing to the, "Think globally, act locally," credo of this very PC crowd, I fight it the best way one man can by being non-discriminatory in my discrimination. As for my denigration of rednecks, this could be taken as a case of the pot calling the kettle black, as my day today consisted of attaching a plow to the truck in order to clear the farm of this weeks snowstorm, so that I can give hay to the horses. Some would call this the domain of the hick or redneck, but I prefer "Gentleman Farmer." I report, you decide.

37 million viewers for last year's Daytona 500.
The only sport that outdraws NASCAR for TV viewers is the NFL.

Forget being the biggest sport, NASCAR isn't even the biggest racing series in the world. By pretty much every standard Formula One dominates. The most recent F1 race (the Brazilian Grand Prix) had a total TV audience of 154 million people. That's even more than Super Bowl XL had (151 million).

My people have reached out to the four-letter network and sources confirm that this is temporary (this week). That would explain why Wilbon did the Chat House from Phoenix yesterday. Cat's got impeccable timing considering what I see when I look out my window!

I can understand the lure of going to a race, but can any racing fan of any type explain to me the lure of watching on tv?

I can understand the lure of going to a race, but can any racing fan of any type explain to me the lure of watching on tv? You get to see what happens. It's like following your favorite basketball team - you watch all the away games on TV to see how your team does. With racing, pretty much every race is an away game. I follow Formula One racing, and that series only has one race a year in the US. So if I want to know what happens in the other 16 races I have to watch them on TV. It's not the same as going to the race in person, but it's better than not seeing the race at all. I just hope that people don't think that NASCAR is indicative of all car racing. NASCAR is Redneck Derby - real racing involves turning left AND right.

Not only is it hard for me to understand that.. but watching any sort of analysis of this "sport" seems absolutely ridiculous to me... especially considering a good amount of the info that ESPN is forcing onto its viewers is given by Brad Daugherty

I can't get through a whole race anymore on TV. I liked it a lot when I was in HS and there's a dirt track in my hometown. You haven't heard anything horrible until you listen to NASCAR on the radio.

NASCAR is Redneck Derby - real racing involves turning left AND right. NASCAR is the ultimate 'highlight' sport. They race for what 400-600 miles. Which takes the better part of an afternoon, right? And sprinkled in there among the hours and hours of coverage are a few crashes (which may or may not be shown live, so you might just end up watching replays of them anyway), maybe a few nice passes and a TON of left turns by cars all going really fast. Why not just catch the highlights of the race on sports center? You'll see all of the exciting stuff and don't have to spend an entire afternoon parked on the couch. At least Formula 1 drivers are ambi-turners.

I was really wondering why you wanted the whole world to know your sick/weird habits. Now I see it was just a big misunderstanding. Phew! But seriously, why is "p-i-s-s" prohibited? This isn't the FCC is it?
