the asininity that is the Mummers' Parade on Saturday followed by a victory for the mouth-breathing Linc crowd on Sunday, I'm counting on the Hoyas to slap Philly back into the reality of what losers they are tonight.
While Nova doesn't really count as a Philly team, unless God forbid they're winning, it will have to do.
This town needs a wake-up call.

Bah. I am from the Philly area, and no teams win ANYTHING. I know that the Eagles are going to blow it deep down in my heart - just like the Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies (the indooor lacrosse Philadelphia Wings don't count).
Rather than hating Philadelphia in general, remember that the rest of the Big Five consider Villanova insufferably annoying, too ('Nova under Rollie tried to dismantle the Big Five - one of the better traditions in college basketball). We all win when Villanova loses.

Yet if you listen to the locals, the road to the Super Bowl is wide open for the mouth-breathing Linc crowd. I swear to God they do that insipid chant just to prove they can spell a six-letter word.
You are correct that a Nova loss is always good for everyone. Remember "Wildcats never die", except for Jake.

Stand up & be proud to say that you are from our great nation's First State! & as someone who was AT the LINC (NOT mouth-breathing, mind you, but mouth-drinking), all I can say is Fly Eagles Fly!

We all win when Villanova loses. Blow it? Blow what!? When you're the third seed in the weak-kneed NFC and are led by your backup QB, you can't "blow" anything. You aren't going to win the Superbowl and you never were this season. Anything beyond what has happened so far is gravy, meaning that getting to the NFC Championship Game would be a hugely successful season, and any Philly fan that moans about playing and losing this week, in the NFC championship or in the Superbowl should be banned as a sports fan for eternity. I appreciate as much as anybody the setting of high expectations and the demanding of only the greatest success. But in a given year you have to wed that to reality.

Remember "Wildcats never die", except for Jake. Oof. 'vado always says the nicest things. I was afraid of laughing at that for fear of going to hell, but then I figured, "Yeah, right. THIS is where I am going to save myself," and went ahead and laughed anyway. Beat Street Corner University!

Yes, I from Delaware. And, yes, we're so small that we don't have pro sports teams (excepting the World Team Tennis thing that gives us Anna Kournikova once a year for one match) - we enjoyed getting mocked by Wayne's World because they at least mention us, and we love Dead Poet's Society because it was filmed in Delaware. So, yes, Philly area - basically everyone that knows the "Action News" theme.
And I should be clearer - when I mean "blow it", I mean "lose". And it's not this season - I thought it was over after the Tennessee game. But every single season of every single sport, there's this thing in my brain that says the team will lose. I've never rooted for a major sports league team that's won a championship in my lifetime. And it's a small part of why I like Georgetown - that they might do what Philly teams can't. Elvado, Eagles fans may say that they're going all the way, but on the inside we're waiting for someone to let us down again. Imagine your perpetually depressed friend who, every time he dates someone for a few months, goes out drinking with you and confesses while sobbing that he's positive he's going to head over to her apartment one night and wake up in a bathtub filled with ice and instructions to call 911 on his cell phone. THAT'S a Philly fan.
And, vegasrain, a good friend gave me a Reggie White jersey for Christmas, so I went over to Rhino's with all the other drunken Philly, Jersey, and Delaware transplants. Beautiful, beautiful ending - even better when I asked a Cowboys fan who Dallas plays this week.

Tollbooth backups don't define the size of it.
So I guess Mummers got delayed till this weekend?
I was up there last weekend and they were putting the barricades up outside our hotel on Broad St. Sunday morning (the bleachers were up Saturday) - we left town Sunday night.

Yeah, he's pulling the classic Jersey move of claiming to live in the area of a city in a different state rather than admitting which state they actually live in. I think I make it very clear where I'm from, and it's no "area of a city of a different state." Besides, if people ask what's near me, the answer is Newark, not NYC.

For me, Smarty Jones was the final sign that Philly fans are doomed.
As a Giants and Hoyas fan, this has been a terrible week to be stuck living near Philadelphia (that's South Jersey to be exact). And to top it off, I got stuck in traffic going out to dinner Saturday night, as the residue of the mummers** parade was being cleaned up on Broad Street. Philadelphia never has traffic on Saturday nights!
** Mummers - that's something I will just never understand, no matter how long I live around here.

It's quite simple:
Mummers = Drunken Drag Queens
People who watch Mummers (or Eagles) = Cretins
